If you are running sensible torque levels just buying a new centre disc from Subaru would be cheap at under £100 I believe.

What torque do you need it to hold? Do you like launching the car?

Just bought an Excedy clutch from David at API impreza, Great value at £358 for a 3 piece kit.

I have just developed a similar problem in my STi 5 :-( and am not sure whether I need an uprated clutch or not.

John: my car produces 310lb/ft of torque and isn't going to increase much over that. I don't regularly launch the car either - would a std clutch be suitable?

I also think greasemonkey is an advocate of the Borg/Beck clutch for standardish cars (?) which is available for sensible money.

Standard torque for an STI V is about 260 ft/lbs so your car is running a lot higher than standard, you'd be best off fitting an AP uprsted clutch IMHO,

I have an sti v2 as well. I fitted a B&B clutch that cost £130. It has been running for 8 months now and has had a trackday and a 1/4 mile day on it. It still is in perfect condition because my gearbox recently went and the guy who rebuilt it commented on how good the clutch looked. He was surprised what i had done on it! Unless you are going for major power upgrade stick with one like this 'blueprinted' one.

My MY00 UK clutch was still fine when removed and was holding about 350 lbft and 400 BHP.

I'm not a big fan of aftermarket clutches that look like the standard stuff and are three times more expensive

I'm in the same boat. My standard UK99 clutch has lasted 43k 4years, 1 trackday, 10 launches at Santa pod in one day and numerous launches on the road.

For a year and half its been running at 260/270bhp and over 230/240 for 3 years anyhow.

Am happy with its characteristics but will it hold for my next project of 350/400bhp running a bigger turbo with N2O?

What do you reckon JB?

PS. Think I'm quite hooked on 1/4mile days, so will have to take that into consideration.

so your advocating use of an OE clutch for up to 350lbft? eek..
does that include and drag day starts john? Or just day to day driving?

It did about 20 launches and 30000 miles and was still OK when removed, not saying to use it for 350lbft, saying it held on my car with that. It held 1.7 bar of 20G fun

I spent silly money on an STi flywheel and 240mm RCMS clutch so I am not saying scrimp on a clutch.
