Thumbs down

Having had a replacement short engine on an MY98, and now got piston slap again after 15k, I am concerned about the current remedy of replacing the piston (albeit with a coated unit). My understanding is that a bore has to be honed to ensure that the rings bed in and thus form a gas tight seal. So with the current fix, is the bore re-honed so ensure the new piston/rings bed in? If this is the case then to prevent the honing grit contaminating the rest of the engine then it would need a complete strip down/flush. I may be wrong, but was under the impression that the new piston is just fitted - how will this seal in a worn bore????

Any ideas - are Subaru cutting corners?

they're not cutting corners but with only 15 mls on it how much wear do you expect there to be. there should be none at all i have never seen a subaru bore that has not still got the original honing marks still on it so wear is very minimal if any at all
