SammyH, if you are not going to far in the mod's department, then a VF23 IHI is a good compromise between Lag and higher boost achievability.
If however you are wanting to go mod crazy then go for a Hybrid from Turbo Dynamics.
Don't fall into the trap of opting for a VF series from Imports as these can by a bit to laggy for UK gearing.
Speak to Turbo Dynamics direct or better still (and I hate plugging!) but give BRDevelopments a call or drop Steve Lawson a line. You can find Steve on this BBS under the user name 'Steve Lawson'.

as for the VF series they go like this, VF28 smallest--->vf22 largest.

sti v/vi use VF28, 22B VF23.

I have driven uk cars with both vf22 and vf23, mine has got a VF23. both felt really strong. the vf22 pushes more air but the boost comes in around couple of hundred rpm later.

my advise is go for a VF23 you won't regret it.

Thumbs up

I've been running an IHI VF24 for 2 weeks now in my MY00 euro spec scoob, and I'm still grinning like a Cheshire feline.

It's a little bit more laggy (max boost arrived at ~3k rpm with the TD04, and 3500 with the VF24), but when it comes on, whooa, and the fact that it doesn't run out of puff, holding boost to the rev limit is nice.
(I don't know how healthy this is though.
)

You'll DEFINATELY need to remap the car, I had to add a bit of fuel in my map on rows 5 and 6 (link) to compensate for the denser charge.

Big turbo on the stock JECS ecu must be risky business indeed - especially with upped boost.

The swap to the VF24 was actually dead easy, a lift will help no end.

/J - running 1.2 and loving it.

hi there. i really think it boost targets depends on the car and the mods it has. i get 1.2 bar by around 3300rpm in 4th gear and at 3500 in 3rd gear according to my data logs and that is with a FMIC , i would have exptected a VF24 to spool up quicker ?

Sam, I've only checked in the lower gears..'tis easy to get an early spool up with the higher loads on the 4th and 5th gear.

I've got a full Scoobysport Zorst (no cats), and the stock airbox (with the resonator removed), and the stock IC (Forge atmos BOV).

The mail with the info U required is on it's way, been hectic lately, sorry mate.

All the VF TURBOS are just a straight swap to a certain extent. couple of hoses needed something doen to them on mine, adaptors i think ? but any garage can deal with that with no great difficulty.
BRD sell a fitting kit for the turbos if i remember correctely.

jerry
very good, that what i would have thought re turbo spool up.

My VF24 was a direct and straightforward swap, out with the old TD04, in with the new VF24.

Nothing needed sorting, and I don't think the new turbo had any special couplings on it either.
