when u reset the ecu using the connectors under the dash, and u get the all clear by the cel flashing at half second intervals, does this mean that nothing is wrong, and there are no problems?
my car is a my95 turbo.
problem is that i have 4 fault codes at the moment, when i do the above i get the all clear. but when i dissconect the green-green connector and leave the black-black connector to check ecu all the codes are still there even though i had reset everything and it told me it was all ok.
does anybody no the next step to take.
does the disconnecting of the battery overnight do a better job?
could somebody please give me some info, or does anybody have similar prob. help much apprietiated

thanks in advance

I have had this on mine before..

drove it for a while and the code disappeared!

If you are not getting a check engine light then it is no longer recording anything and the reset comes up all clear so I would say they are old codes in the memory and no longer occurring so ignore...

If you are getting more than one code at a time though would be worth checking your earthing and adding another from battery negative to the block as more than one code is a sign of bad earthing which the scoob it prone too..

cheers jolly green monster, my first reply in a long time on this matter. i never get a cel light come on. so this means that the codes are old ones and dont matter. but i thought that reseting ecu wiped everything off. so if the codes are there are they not affecting the components which they relate to. i also thought that when there were codes the ecu retarded the ignition?

No the codes are just a history or previous events..

the ignition retardation is reset by the ecu reset.

I am unsure why the history is not being cleared but I have observed the same on mine..

The CEL would be on at the time of the problem, so if it off now then all is well.. some intermitten problems might switch it on for a little while and then correct itself but if it is not coming on at all and the reset is giving you an okay code then I would assume all is well.

As I understand it (info from Link ECU manual) there are four earth pins on the ecu.. they are in pairs so you only need to earth one of each pair..

The info is in the last page of the Link ECU manual which I will email you in a minute..

You just strip a bit of insulation off and solder an extra earth wire to it.. my engine bay is a web of earth wires now.. lol
