Downpipe Advise
#1
My next intended purchase will be a downpipe and replacement centre section.
However, after doing a search on the subject of downpipes I find myself more confused than ever as there is so much info out there.
My car is a 97 UK turbo with Magnex back box. A local garage is suggesting I go for a HKS replacement pipe, but I am not sure how these compare to other choices such as the SS pipe, and the Magnex pipe.
It seems that no matter what pipe people have fitted thy are not dissapointed, however it would be good to hear some feedback from people who have the above D/P's fitted, and their reasons for choosing them.
Please help as I am looking to get it done mid ASAP.
Cheers
Ady

Ady.
I fitted the Scoobysport pipe as well and I have to say that the result was far better than I'd imagined.
Incidentally, the HKS if I remember right, retains the blanking plate over the impeller exit of the turbo as with the original DP (very restrictive).
Most other makes (if not all?) have either a fully open throat or twin dump (2 individual pipes for turbo and exhaust as in the BPM and Scoobymania).
Twin dumps give more high end advantage whereas single outlet gives better low down grunt.....apparently (I'm no expert).

Hi Ady,
Seeing as you are a Lancashire boy, like me,
why not try Jap Innovations in Oldham (0161 652 0920).
They did my downpipe for me £200 fitted.
They'll also swap it back for the old one for MOT for £40!!!
Made a BIG difference to my car. with this, Blitz filter and decat centre my torque went up 36 lbs ft! (nearly 20%).
They also do exhaust systems and lots of other goodies too. Their own exhaust sounds really good (dare I say as good as Scooby sports). Give 'em a ring!

Alan,
They charged me £200 to supply and fit a downpipe that took them 4 hours 'cause all the bolts were welded tight. I wouldn't like to do that for £200. By comparison, Graham Goode charge £300+vat for a downpipe and £90+vat fotr fitting (£458.25). Can it be THAT much better?
Why do you think they are dear?
