Thumbs down

Just had my car on the rolling road....230bhp with a loss of power at 4500rpm then back on at 5000rpm. Tried all the usual things...boost solenoid pipes, oil, ecu etc etc. Have replaced one of the four coil packs, should I try replacing all of them?

Cheers, Steve.

Unhappy

Sorry to hear that your down on power, but then again 10bhp aint that much to loose out on
You have to remember that the earlier wrx's only pushed 240bhp with 100 ron fuel, now running on super should leave you around 230ish anyway so you got about the right figures there.
Now if i remember correctly, 93-95 were 240bhp, 96-98 were 260bhp and 99 onward were 276bhp for wrx's

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY93WRX. I HAD TUNES AFTER TUNES. THE ONLY CURE WAS EITHER A 95WRX ECU OR A STI 2 WRX .I OPTED FOR THE 95WRX ECU PROBLEM SOLVED. MY BHP SOMETIMES WENT AS LOW AS 197BHP.NOW MY CAR HAS A 260BHP AND RUNNING AT 14PSI OR SHOULD BE .IAM GOING FOR A TUNE ON WEDS ILL KEEP U POSTED.ITS RUNNING SWEET LIKE A NEW CAR,

Remember guys, this isnt a problem, the car was originally tuned for 240bhp! im also not sure if fitting a later ecu is a good move? i would opt for an after market one myself, eg link ecu.

At Last. The car ran perfect! No flat spot at 4500rpm, just constant power....Unfortunately, I had to give it back, but eagerly waiting for a 95 wrx ecu to arrive. With a new downpipe being fitted on Saturday and a rolling road session, it should be interesting to see what power it produces.

Still not sure if its a good idea swapping your old ecu to a newer one, what modifications have been done to the engine etc by the manufacturer in the first place to enable 260bhp?? have there been changes in fuelling etc??
its like someone putting an my00 chip in an my97, not reccommended (and they prob wouldnt want to do it either lol!)
If you want to change your chip, go for an aftermarket one, link is probably the best one you can get for your car as an after market chip
Remember, they change the chips for a reason, not just because the manufacturer has found problems with it

HI TONY,
AS FOR THE EARLIER VERSION CHIP THE ENGINE MODIFICATOIN WAS A BIGGER INTERCOOLER AND A QUICKER RESPONDING TURBO AND DIFFRENT MANIFOLD. I HAD MY CAR ON THE ROLLING ROAD AT POWER ENGINEERING TODAY HE ADJUSTED THE TIMING AND REPLACED THE PLUGS .HE PLUGGED INTO THE ECU ETC AND CHECKED THE BOOST PRESSURE ITS FINE .END RESULT GOING BACK TO DERBY WAS THAT THE CAR FELT SMOOTHER AND QUICKER RESPONCE IN ALL GEARS.AS REGARDS ANY FAULTS SHOULD HAPPEN THATS WHATS THE KNOCKING SENSOR IS FOR.THE CAR IS RUNNING RICH.IHAVE DROVE 500 HARD MILES IN THIS CAR WITH NOT A PROBLEM, INFACT AS YOU WILL ALREADY KNOW I STEADED 150 FOR I MINUTE WITHOUT A PROBLEM. THANKS FOR YOUR ADVICE TONY.

OH I FORGOT THERE WAS A FAULT ON THE EARLY ECU . IVE HAD THREE IN MINE ALL THE SAME.I WAS TOLD THAT THE MAPPING WAS FOR 100RON INDEFINATELY.THATS WHY THE WRX 95,96 OR STI2 WORK FINE.NO OTHER MODEL ECU WILL ADAPT TO 93,94 WRX THOUGH.
