Thumbs down

My standard backbox is starting to blow around the weld at the front (near engine end) & the car is only 3 years old with 26k on the clock . Is this a standard time and/or mileage they start to rot & drop to bits? and what about the rest of the system, cats (oohh, expensive ) etc?

Standard exhaust don't last that long, and sound pants.

If I was you do yourself a favour, buy a Scooby Sport Back Box. Fits straight onto your existing system, and improves the car so much.

Sounds fantastic in traffic and around town, but doesn't make any difference to cabin noise inside the car, whilst travelling down the motorway 80 mph+

Hope this helps.

Lee,

The standard box is just mild steel so rots pretty quick. The CATS use stainless steel so will be OK.

But if you want to hear you car then fit an after market BB. A lot go for ScoobySport and it does sound good.

If you want to REALLY hear your car then fit a full decat system like what I did Hee hee

I'd be surprised if there is anybody on the board who knows the answer to this question - most people have replaced at least the backbox (and often the whole system) *way* before this kind of time/mileage for something Stainless Steel and louder

Changed my b/box to a Mongoose b/box after a year/26K miles

The original one was showing signs of corrosion on the joints/welds.

s/steel aftermarket box is the way to go - IMHO of course!

while you are at it get the centre cat replaced with a straight(ish) bit 'o' pipe.

My standard rear box hasn't corroded much at all. Its also nearly 3 years old, almost good as new. It has, however, spent the last 2 years in my shed
