I started up my 95 WRX this morning and the 'check engine' light stayed on. The car was running just fine last night (as ever) and I thought i'd have a look when I got home. I drove gently at first, but once I hit about 5,000 rpm the engine shut down as though I'd chucked the brakes on.

I've checked for loose connections, disconnected the battery but to no avail. I'm sure its nothing mega as the car runs smoothly apart from this shut down.

Any ideas?

I've done some more investigation. I can rev it as much as I like on light throttle openings, but on hard acceleration, depending on gear (and boost) it can dump as early as 3800 rpm. I'm getting error code 45.
Whats all that about>?

I am not expert but accord to WRX ECU codes info:
45 = *Pressure sensor - Pressure exchange - solenoid valve 12
*Pressure sensor is abnormal - Pressure exchange solenoid valve is not functioning
(near wastegate solenoid). I hope this helps you !
