93 WRX Starting Problem.
I have a standard 93 WRX in mint(I think)condition. It's well looked after and I've been a mechanic for 12 years but this is bugging me.
When I start the car hot or cold for the first couple of seconds it splutters and sounds like it's going to cut out. It then jumps up to fast idle and all is OK from then on i.e it warms up the tickover comes down to 800 rpm and it drives a dream.
Have removed the idle control valve and cleaned it all out. Then plugged in a Subaru diagnosic tool and ran a check and no faults, all sensors OK. So still don't know the fault, could it be leaking injector or the use of crap fuel (only use super) but have used sainsburys!
I would appreciate any help so I don't worry that this is the start of something expensive!
Cheers Colin.

My 93 WRX used to behave like that when i first got it. I put it down to the fact the engine had been steam cleaned by the garage i bought it off.
After 2 months like this, it cured itself, and started fine (no spluttering).
Probably doesn't help you though,
Phil.

I've got a 94 WRX. Mine had trouble starting. I fixed it by re-tensioning the spring on the throttle pedal so that it returned properly to it's highest position.
Try just holding it up by hand and start the car to see if it makes a difference.
Steve.
