do a search on this topic, its basically a bleed valve IIRC that tricks the ecu on fuel cut level, i personally wouldnt recommend one but some may??

I have one on a MY01 and as far as i can tell theres no problem with it.I did fit a boost gauge though, and screwed in the bleed valve in so that it peaked at 17 psi and drops back and holds at 15psi.

I've read on here that a lot of people dont recommend them but like I said I've had no probs with mine. however having just had a decat I'll be taking it out and getting my ECU remapped with EcuTek soon hopefully

GO FOR SCOOBY ECU ALSO SEE DAWES DEVICE AND FUEL CUT DEFENDER.
ALWAYS RUN ON OPTIMAX WHEN RUNNING HIGHER BOOST. SAFE TO ABOUT 16PSI.
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR.

SCOOBY ECU - £100
DAWES DEVICE - ABOUT £50

MOTEC ECU - ABOUT 2K MAPPED.

Lots of people have got them.
If it'll fit the car, get one. Far better than any other option available for the money, and better than many which cost a considerable amount more...

Steer clear of SuperChips, if not because they 'cheat' the system (fudge numbers to the ECU for starters), but also because they are hugely overpriced. A 'DIY' SuperChips needn't cost more than around £50...

A DIY superchip is about £5 for the electronics, wire PCB, connectors and a nice little plastic box and £20 for a Bleed Valve

As said above, the 40 bhp increase quoted by Superchips may be achieved, but it confuses the ECU, bleeds off boost pressure to fool the ECU, makes the motor more likely to run lean and hence blow up, and takes safety control away from the ECU.

As does the dawes device take away boost control from the ecu, but with the right gauges and decent set up this is better.

ScoobyECU for the pre 97 cars is mapped for the std year car with certain improvements and works really well. More boost, correct air/fuel/ignition, no bleed valves, ECU knows what it is doing, uses a new map like a "proper" remap would do, but far easier and cheaper and fine for most early cars!
Yeah, I got one too, it is super!

There seems to be a lot of speculation that the superchip will somehow damage a car,I know a lot of people say dont do it, but is there any proof of this and if so where?

I understand that if someone who is well respected in the engine dept says dont do it ,you'll always get the people jumping on the bandwagon saying the same without even looking into it. so if there is a problem with them, can someone with the relevant experience/knowledge let us know..

This isnt having a go at people, I would just like to hear real experience instead of hear say.

The superchip in my car seems to be fine but I do plan on getting an ecutek remap and removing the superchip this year, but this is purely because I've had a decat and not through reading this board

Cheers

Phil

P.S. sorry to semi-hijack your thread

I have to agree madgrip, ive had one for 18 months and no probs what so ever. It produces 269 hp and 293 lbt torque on G-Force rollers. He said it was running fine and not too lean.

Lightbulb

Like all these things, it's probably directly proportional to the ability of the fitter. Remember Superchips can be bought as a DIY installation; 'Just join the red wire to the green wire the blue wire to the yellow wire, find a suitable earth, light the blue touchpaper and run like bloody hell!!

We've just rebuilt a guy's UK 99LS Turbo from Leeds-ish who had a Superchip fitted and mapped by a guy who ' tore round and round the block mapping it until it threw a rod' Now they're arguing, and the 'chip is in the bin. UK's are more robust on UK fuel than imports and are starting from a lower horsepower so done carefully it ought to be OK............

I know, I know! Bob Rawle and other respected people map out on the road, my point is, it can be done but not by everybody.

We've seen more failures of cars with poorly fitted superchips and NOS kits than we'd like to and in general we advise: there is a better way - look into it.

thanks for the reply David

The chip in my car was arranged and paid for by the previous owner and to be honest after fitting a boost gauge and watching the needle fly to 19psi I was a bit worried.I turned the bleed screw in and at the moment its running 15-17psi which as far as I know is ok for a MY01 Euro bugeye.

As I mentioned before , I will be getting the ecu remapped this year with EcuTEK.

thanks again

Phil

QUOTE: 17PSI IS FINE!!

I WOULD NOT TAKE THAT FOR GRANTED. HAVE YOU GOT A KNOCKLINK TO BE SURE. IF YOU RUN ON OPTIMAX 98RON IT MAY BE OKAY.
WHAT ABOUT ST!!TE FUEL 95RON IT MAY BE CLOSE TO DETONATION!!
JUST SOME THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER.

I tried running my MY00 at 16.5psi and there was quite alot of activity on the Knocklink especially on the gearchange transition.
This was done with an Ae801 and an Ae802 ECU on Optimax.

Now it has been ECUTEK'd the peak boost I have seen is about 17psi+ and the Knocklink is very quiet indeed.
