Hello scoobsters hope you are all well and looking forward to the summer months.

I have been reading various posts on here about quick steering racks being fitted to certain scoobs (type RA mainly i think but someone did suggest that maybe type R's do to) and would like to clear up what has what fitted.

I thought the best way to do this would be to ask everyone to check their own car and working on the basis that a quick rack should have less turns lock to lock (i could be wrong here) we might be able to work it out.

So i shall begin...

STi V4 Type R = 2.5 turns lock to lock.

It was I who said that I thought all type rs do.

My 22b does and has a sticker on the back window which says quick steering.

Yours does too, as it is the same car as simon de banke who definitely has a quick rack.

I am almost certain that all type rs do.

Don't know about type RAs but if they do, I would assume it is only STI type RAs not WRX RAs.

Moray has an STI 3 type RA V limited which does not have a quick rack. Perhaps they took it off when they added back the creature comforts and turned it into a panzy car?

However STI 5 type RA V limiteds (one for sale on bbs) does seem to have one.

can only assume that it is random and original customer specified, but only an option on RAs, standard on type rs???????

But to confirm.

22B yes definitely.

Cool

Don't know about lock to lock but I've just gone from the std UK car steering rack to the WRX STi RA 13:1 Quickratio steering rack and I think it's fantastic. I wish I'd fitted it a long time ago as it makes the scoobs steering would it should have been in the first place.

With regards to the cars that have this fitted, all STi RA's have them and the 22B, and I believe they were fitted to certain MY Type R's. The jap brochure I have for the Version 5 cars shows that only the STi RA has the 13:1 quick ratio rack, all other models including the STi Type R, all other STi's and the normal non sti wrx ra and type R have 15:1 racks.

I think the UK rack is different again, I seem to remember it being maybe a 16.5:1 rack but I may be wrong and it may just be the 15:1 rack like all the other STi's and jap spec models.

Certain v.ltd STi type R's may have had the uprated 13:1 rack but I'm not sure of this. The 5&6 Type R's almost definately haven't, not sure on the 3&4's though.

Hello Guys,

Okay so how many turns lock to lock do you get?

All 22B's are modified V4 Type R's and if it already had a quick rack i can't see the point in putting a sticker in the rear window telling you that it has one fitted if it already had, So perhaps they didn't.

Anyone know the part numbers for a steering rack?

Its all very well referring to 15:1, etc but how many turns of the wheel for each rack ratio?

MY99 WRX - Steering starts at around 7 o'clock and finishes at around 5 o'clock. Therefore, lock to lock must be around 2.75 turns.

Cool

Adam,

It is better to have a pansy car than to be a pansy driver.

I'm pretty sure that only RA's & 22B's have the "quick rack" as standard.

Wink

Let me simplify,

If it has a sticker in the rear window saying "Quick Steerin by STi" then it has a quick rack fitted from the factory!! Mine is retro fit so I'll have to order a sticker
