I am about to get a ScoobySport DP and was wondering about getting it 'lagged' but I know almost nothing about it.
I assume it will keep the noise inside the car down?
What are the pro's and con's?
Is it a DIY job?
Where can I get it done in the NW?
How much will it cost?

Andrew, got mine done at TAS in Leyland - ring Drew on 01772 454647 and mention my name
Benefits wise, don't think it will make any real difference to in-cabin noise, main benefits are preventing 'heatsoak' into the cabin, and marginal performance benefit - the hotter the gas, the quicker/freer it flows

Hi.
I lagged my downpipe and midsection because I found the noise level too much inside the car. It does quieten it quite alot really! I bought the 2 inch wrap from Demon Tweeks (along with the stainless ties and silicone spray) and did it when I had to refit the old pipes for the MOT. It cost about £50 and if you know how to apply a bandage or bicycle handlebar tape it's a doddle and well worth the effort. Plus a marginal gain due to the hotter gasses.
Only problem is that I must have brushed a speed bump or 2 because I noticed some lengths of it hanging off the mid section last night .
Steve.

Lagging a downpipe will give a slight reduction on noise in the car.
If we lag downpipes, we only lag down to just above the bottom bend. This is for two reasons...
1) If you graze a speed bump (you shouldn't as it doesn't sit lower) then it will tear off.
2) The horizontal part will get wet with road water and may give off some unpleasant smells.

From my own experience I don't know if just lagging the downpipe made any difference to the noise but lagging the mid section made the difference between me keeping or selling it as I certainly couldn't put up with the noise beforehand. However, as Pete pointed out if you graze a speed bump it tears hence the 4 tails I have hanging off the mid section . Might also explain the increase in noise which I thought I had been imagining.
When I did mine I gave both lagged pipes a heavy coating of silicone spray to prevent too much moisture ingress and for a bit of added heat protection (so it says in the catalogue ) and the only smell I had was like burnt cakes for a couple of weeks after. Certainly not unpleasant....
