Cool

Had a pretty good chance to test my car out now with the addition of the SS downpipe and centre mated to my Prodrive backbox.
First impressions are that I now have a GP.N car on my drive.
Car whistles a lot and turbo spools up about 500rpm sooner.
No sign of any DET well not that you can hear **** all anyway.
So best bit of dosh I`ve spent yet I reckon.
Shame we missed you today Pete...next time eh....
Thanks to the lads at SS. A bunch with the same warped sense of humour as me

Arron,

I'll put my invoice in the post for the commission on selling the SS DP and centre section to you.

Speak to you soon.

Aaron.

Glad you're enjoying it. A couple of questions:
Did you have the downpipe lagged?
How much louder, in cabin, do you find the new setup?

Neil.

Neil no it isn`t lagged and yes it is noisier in car.
One detting session so far completely out of the blue???
New lamba sensor being fitted next week so hopefully this will cure that.
I`m no mechanic but it did sound like it "pinked" this morning??
Put my foot down four times in a row to check then next time no noise>???

Sureley the thing would det all the time not just once in 300 miles??
Oh and yes it sounds very nice and yes it goes a bit better

Have you thought of fittnig a knocklink.

That way you will know when it is detting, and if there is a problem can back off.

You will hear it at low speeds so it is safe, but on hard acceleration there is no way, and this is when it can do the most damage.

I think you will find it will be fine, but for the sake of <£100 why not for safety.

Cool

I'll second Adam's suggestion... now that you have publicly said goodbye to any warrantee cover on the engine, you should invest in a knocklink to let you spot det before it's terminal.

ARRON
I'LL SPEAK A BIT LOUDER SO YOU CAN HEAR ME

Your fuel consumption will also go up - you spend so much time driving round town accelerating and decelerating in 2nd hehehe

Detting can depend on many variables - ambient temperature, air density/humidity level, gradients (load) etc

With the SS you won't hear it until it is too late - the time the engine cries enough and goes *BANG* - do what the guys say and get a knocklink

Right you lot,
now you've got me worried, I fitted a d/p to my car yesterday, and now I'm worried about the deting, the question is who would you get a Knocklink from (prices vary) and is it a diy fit or do you HAVE to get it fitted?

Ron,
The concern with Arrons motor is because The P1 and the STIs on which it is based are prone to detting with a freeflow D/p, If yours isn't I wouldn't get too worried

Arron,

There is no point saying it is fine today, it is fine today etc.

Unless you post, its blown up we will assume it is okay.

Hundreds of Sti 5s (essentially your car) have after market dps fitted, without reporting day in day out noises.

It is nice to be able to help you, but I personally feel you are being a touch paranoid, but since this is an expensive (too expensive car we are talking about, perhaps it is understandable.

If you are really concerned, you could use super unleaded and octane booster all the time, this will reduce the chances of det, and as I said, the knocklink (try brdevelopments - branko will always have them in stock) will be able to put your mind at rest.

For your own benefit, I would tell EVERYONE on the board that you HAVE put your standard dp back on, that way your warranty will be safe, should your engine not be best pleased with you and decide to run away.

MY00 is fine. Mapping envelope much more within parameters than P1 which is closer to the edge.

Dave - two MY00 with full SS decat systems....
