On a otherwise Std 99 plate classic what will offer the best performance increase?

Tek2 with no other mods

or

Full De-cat and induction kit with no other mods?

I can only do 1 of these due to insurance

Thanks Matt

Full decat, and maybe an induction kit, be careful which one though!!

tek 2 would work better with the above, therefore if only doing one, the decat wins!

Thumbs up

I found the jump from standard to full decat was MASSIVE. Added the Tek 2 and it was a bit better, more noticable in 4th and 5th gear at higher revs.

For 1,2,3 gear fun, definately get the full decat...Oh, the exhaust note, pops, bangs and occasional flame - wont get that with a Tek 2 alone

But with a TEK2 what you will get is a car that passes at MOT time and the same performance as a de-cat without the hassle.
I was also informed that if I just did a de-cat, then you should have the car re-mapped to avoid boost spikes.
I did the de cat first, hated the droning noise at 85mph so put the old pipe back on and went TEK2.
The increase is excellent(up from 226 BHP to 256 BHP and torque went from 214 lbft to 267 lbft)

Matt Classic

So you are just running a standard car with a Tek2 no other mods?

How much difference is the performance over standard?

Cheers

Its got a replacement back box too, dont know what sort, been on there since I had the car. Its a 00MY 4dr.
Everything else is standard in terms of performance, the only other mod I have is the pro drive handling kit.
The car just pulls like a train, and smoother too, 3rd gear acceleration from 50 is a real smile inducer
(insurance companys cannot detect the TEK 2 either)

Matt Clasic, A couple of questions please:

1. Why Tec 2 not TEC 2.5?
2. Did you upgrade the fuel pump?
3. How longs it been on the car and any problems re reliability etc?

cheers

Just seen this has been replied to, answers below:

1. Didn't know about TEK 2.5 (probably more money anyway!)
2. No problems so far, apart from trying to drive it slowly
3. Been done about 6 months now, didnt uprate fuel pump, was told it wasn't necessary.
