Red face

i was driving along in 2nd gear the other night @ 2500revs and noticed the car seemed to be holding back as tho it wanted to stop
when i pushed the accelerator to the floor it picked up, so i took it on the motorway and was giving it some in 4th then into 5th, i could feel it holding out on me again, i pushed it a bit more and the car jerked on me.

its done this a few times on me b4

any ideas guys & gals ????

Dave I sometimes get this on my 93 WRX. Do you get a whispy sound from the engine/turbo? It only seems to happen in phases though, ie once a fortnight. Seems that if you drive "sensibly" for a while then give it some the problem goes away.

Hi guys,
i use to get this problem quite a lot,3rd gear getting ready to overtake ,start overtake then the car would feel like it was towing a caravan for a second then jerk a little then it would pull cleanly.not turbo lag it felt like it was restricted for a split second then afterwards it would be ok.
I filled her up with a full tank of sul, reset the ecu and it has stopped this problem(so far)give it a try.mines a 92wrx

my93 wrx- similar problem, turned out to be detting on crap petrol and the ecu was reducing the boost- symptoms sound just like what my car was doing even when run on sul. scoobynutters description is almost an exact description of what was happening to my car.two broquets now in the tank, ecu reset and no further problems for over a year!!! don't know if this helps ( it cost me 300 quid to find this out!!!! ) pumpers

I get this on my 98 STi4,but only at light throttle.
It's a total pain, and an ECU reset hasn't fixed it.
See the thread on engine surging - there are some mentions of hesitation there....

Shouldn't be det at light throttle though. Other people have mentioned dirty plugs, but mine were ok at the last service.

If anyone's got a quick fix it'd be appreciated!

Question

Try cleaning the wastegate solenoid?

Does it drop off boost at all?

I'll try cleaning the solenoid at the weekend....
but where mine hesitates it would be off boost anyway.
Someone suggested throttle position sensor?
cheers

my 92wrx is only running 0.5 bar going full bore,i've had mixed responses to this question but some people say 0.9 bar others 1 bar+.what do you believe??
that was before when i had the problem with hesitation,i'll have to reinstall my boost gauge and see what the reading is now i run on Sul and a reset ecu..

my93 wrx runs .85 bar boost and has done so since the broquets were installed-- 0.5 bar was about what mine did when the ecu was reducing the boost - scoobynutter, i've got a definite sense of deja-vu!! pumpers. ( getting dyno-ed sunday at well lane so i'll have more info re boost/bhp/torque curve in comparison to last year. only changes to car is broquets and hks exhaust and it was running like a donkey last time with scoobynuters symptoms!!!
