Thumbs up

Hi All, As a scoobie newbie I am in need of some advice. I am the proud owner of a year 2000 STI 6 Type r and am on the hunt for an induction kit.
I have been told by a tuning company it is best to go for a HKS super racing induction kit and a HKS AFR to up the fuelling!! Is this a safe set up for my type R?
I have searched recent posts and could not find any definitive answers!!

Any help or advice would be most appreciated!
Many thanks and merry Xmas to you all!!

LMR.

Don't, certainly not yet at any rate, as there are more important priorities.

Not without further qualification, as even a bog standard Type R isn't strictly safe when run in the UK on British pump petrol.

Dicking around with induction kits on MY99/00 cars isn't really the best thing you can do. There's minimal power gain and much more opportunity for the MAF sensor to either misread or get damaged, with very unfortunate consequences. You're better off with a good (K&N/Green) panel filter.

All that said, before you get anything else, you need to get hold of a KnockLink, and either a supply of good octane booster, or a remap to enable your car to run safely on UK fuel. You shouldn't really be driving the car hard until you've taken care of this issue.

Pretty much everything you need to know is here somewhere. Use the Search...

totally agree with the g monkey, sort out the fueling and then fit a panel filter. The panel filter will save the hardships of a knackerd MAF.

Cheers greasemonkey,
The car is always run on optimax + Millers octane boost, the knock link sensor is however a purchase which I will be making ASAP. Thanks for the advice, the panel filter sounds good to me.

The searchs I carried out raised plenty off different opinions some good some bad that is why I raised the question!

I am new to the boards!

I have put in a search for pretty much the same question as LMR! LOL!
And (as LMR states) brings up a right mixed bag of opinions.

Just to clarify then, its best not to go down the induction route? Cheers in advance!

As already stated many times before,it's best to just stick with the standard air box and invest in a good quality panel filter.
May save you time and money with knackered maf sensors.

...unless of course you plan on an ECU replacement, that doesn't depend on the MAF sensor...

I agree with grease monkey, before you fiddle about with certain things get the tunning of your baby sorted first, depending on your where-abouts power engineering are v.good in middlesex thats where i go.... I belive a rolling road tune up and a bhp print out comes to the tidy sum of £125 inc v.a.t Also they can advise you on future purchases.
