Richard, go back 30 days to Mark Morris' post on 29th Nov, headed Mobil 1 Motorsport Oil.
You'll find a right can 'o' worms there, the conclusive answer being "it depends"!
My interpretation of it all is, go synthetic, and avoid 0-?? rated oils, even in winter. It's the turbo, an' all that.
Mobil 1 MotorSport 15-50 is very highly regarded, and that's what I use (Halfords have a good offer on). I'm careful to let it warm up gently, and cool down ditto.
The Castrol 10-60 that John Felstead recommends is harder to get hold of, but my local go-faster shop has it and will discount if I order 4 x 4 litres. I'll go for this next time.
Filters? Dunno. I use Champion, from Halfords.

PS I don't own shares in Halfords, honest! But they're handy and stock a good range at my local.

'Purolator' make the oil filters - sister division of my company. Parent company now called 'ArvinMeritor' after a recent merger.
Purcolator ? - Are you thinking Coffee ???

Don't know about the oil, but I wouldn't touch a Champion filter with a bargepole. Didn't know they listed them for Turbo anyway. My main experience was on a beemer which rattled like mad on cold startup with the Champion filter possibly 'cos it didn't have a non-return valve to stop the oil draining back to the sump. Subaru OE filters are made by Purcolator which are fine, and so are Blueline and Crossland.

So do you work for Timax Mick?
Oil filter:
Within warranty -
Subaru filter only
Beyond warranty -
Fram (PH5280)
Manufactured by Fram
Blue Print (ADS72103)
Manufactured by The Nippon Micro Filter Corp. Japan
Please note, neither of these filters are of the 'cheap and cheerful' type and both are made to match O.E. specification.

Thanks M8s for info on oil filters. My car's still in warranty so the Champion I was going to fit after today's cancelled track day at Dono will be staying on the shelf, and I'll fit a Subaru OE. Cheers,

Subaru UK's recommenation/stipulation is Shell Helix SEMI-synthetic!
When I asked Pete Croney, his recommendation was
1. Silkolene Pro S
2. Castrol Magnatec Fully Synth
3. Shell Helix Fully Synth
Pro S was out of stock, so I've used Magnatec. Engine seems a bit smoother than on Helix fully synth, but no real difference aside from that (except Magnatec was £10 cheaper )
