Thumbs up

just got word from my dealer that they are fitting a new short engine, dealership will be paying for it because it is out of warranty and i've only had it a month. i asked about fittng a new clutch at the same time and i was quoted 258 quid is that right? he then said the flywheel might need changing if i had a clutch so i said i'd think about it

The problem with the engine is piston slap, i didn't even know these cars suffered from this problem until i looked on this site. They are fitting the engine in the first week of january so hopefully it will be a good start to the year. Have you searched scoobynet for engine failures as there have been a few with bearing problems, is the car still under warrranty?

yeah I did search but nothing really came up with a solution to the problem it went in a few weeks ago for the same problem which they changed the turbo after finding oil behind it thinking that the bearings had gone in it but only to still losing oil this time they have the engine out has I said before speaking to the service manager who seem to think it might be piston rings , valve stem oil seals who knows if they can't find the problem looks like their going to put a short motor in good job it's still under warranty
I have heard about the piston slap problem I guess you've got a my98ish I think it affected them more than others many problems due to this where supposed to fixed in the my99 engine but guess what mine is a my99 didn't fix my oil problem

i have a kind of slapping/knocking noise on my MY98, its starts about 7 seconds after start up, and can be heard better when reversing out of the drive( i.e. low revs). This noise is not audiable once the engine has warmed up though.Same thing??

Dick

The problem you have sounds like piston slap, mine does this when cold a few seconds after startup, and is even more noticable when under load at 1000-1500 revs, the noise totally disappears when driven for about 10 mins. Is the car under warranty as they will fit a new type short engine if you complain

Going back to the clutch - I had my clutch plate (not flywheel) replaced in September while my engine was being replaced for piston slap - cost was just less than £100.

Cheers,

Steve

Exclamation

I have just had the short end replaced on my MY98 with 53k and I had to have a new pressure plate, drive plate and flywheel which cost £550 inc vat with no labor.

Darren.
