Hi all, just some strange idea. If I understand correctly, one of the weak points of a stock Subaru ECU is the slow boost build, which removes the classical "kick", and the fact that the boost is not kept up to the redline.

At the same time, with a decat up/downpipe, you get bad boost spikes, which could kill your engine. So, what about using an EBC to properly control boost (which means, at mid rpm reaching full boost earlier, and keep it up to the redline), without changing the ECU? If we go to, say, 0.1 bar more than the stock settings, but still stay below the fuel cut, what would be the gain? Would the fuelling be up to the job?

Reason I ask is I have a MY01, already with UP/DP from scoobysport, and have to choose if to go for a off the shelf Ecutek, or buy some gizmo to toy around...

Cheers,

Andrea

Thanks Phill

So, maybe a tek remap with user tuning could be the way to go... IIRC, with user tuning you can tweak fuelling, ignition and boost, within a safe range. But it is not a full remap capability.

Any experience with it?

The gain with only a bit more boost is almost nothing in the MY01/02 cars. The fueling is VERY rich and the ignition is VERY MUCH retarded in these cars. To get a nice gain, the ignition and fueling should be changed!

I see. At the same time, this means that the stock ECU is mapped on the same side of things, and there is no danger while I run on stock map and UP/DP, right?

Seriously thinking about tek now:-)
