Question

I don't think this has been asked before. had a quick check.

If I were to change just the centre pipe at the moment (cost reasons) would it make much difference to performance? or just sound?

...and, what's the differance between the Scooby Sport center pipe circa £100, and the new Scooby Mania circa £50? (Dave T, don't say 50 quid )

TIA,

P.

Sith,

It Depends on your car, but your current centre pipe should contain a Catalytic converter, which is very restrictive to the flow of exhaust gases. So by replacing it, you will get an improvment in air flow, which should mean an improvement in performance how much you will notice this though I can't say.

As for what the difference between the pipes are, I would say nothing!

The straight through centre pipe, is basically that, a straight through pipe, so providing that they are both stainless steel, and they both fit correctly, they should be almost identical.

Initially I only fitted the ecu and i/c hosing off the PPP, leaving the OE centre/backbox in place.

After a week I swapped the centre for the straight through PPP item - there was a slight deeper sound as a result. More importantly, was a noticeable increase in low down torque....but that's with a PPP...

Cheers chaps.

Pretty much backed up what I thought. DP is a possibility for the future, and BB is also future purchase.

For £50 think I will get the Scooby Mania.

I assume this will mate up to Scooby Sport BB's etc?

Cheers,

P.

Sith,

One thing, make sure your happy with expected noise levels if you buy one as some offer resonated options in addition to straight through pipes.

Sith,

It's a bit catch 22. The main restriction is in the D/P, but change that, and the mid section becomes the problem.

I suspect that any gains from the mid section alone, will be minor, but it's a start, and for £50, it's a very cheap start.

I have just ordered a SS centre section to go with the SS back box and downpipe I have fitted.

How noisy is the system?

If it's nosie levels you want to check, have a look in the events section.

There's a meet in Fleet, Hampshire on Sunday 10th December.

I'm sure people will offer all sorts of opinions, but you are more than welcome to check out my Scoobysport & Magnex combo again!!!!

I'm also sure you'll see (& hear) a variety including the ScoobySport, Scorpion, Prodrive and the both the Magnex ones (with and without resonator)

I know it's already been said, but the downpipe is the one that will make the difference!!! I personally would save up the extra cash, and get that done instead of the centre for now!!!!

Andy

PS - My old MY97 with JUST a ScoobySport backbox and downpipe was LOUDER, than my current MY99 with the ScoobySport backbox, downpipe and Mangex centre (with resonator)!!!

Noise - Luckily my car is virtually a weekend only car. But on reflection with Sunil's, Andy's comments and remembering some1 else mentioning that the MY96 is far louder with no resonator. I will probably get the resonator version.

And dependant on overtime An SS DP as well. Should be interesting to see how the standard box does with that combo.

I do want the BB, just insufficient funds at the moment

I have a years warranty that came with the car, from B&Colvill. Would this sort of changes invalidate it? I have not checked the book yet. And the insurance company have already given me the go on the canges.

Cheers for doing the research I was going to phone ScoobyMania today, but forgot. Duhh!

Glad you checked. Looks like I may be getting an SS centre after all.

All this info is handy, as, even if I don't get the bits now, I know for the future. I think definately resonated centre with an SS DP.

'nuver question. Over on 22B.com, a chap has a 94WRX wich suffered over boost after changing DP and induction kit. Is this likely to happen on my MY96?

Ta,

P.

I run my MY00 with a straight thru (no resonator) Magnex centre section. Very slight change to noise (deeper, but not much louder). Seemed a bit more free revving at the top end as well.

c£55 from memory. Send me a mail if you want to know where I got it.

Dales

PS, it is compatible with the Scoobysport back box
