Question

Hey all,
Want to fit a Magnex exhaust to my car (only on 1k miles) but have been advised to steer clear for a least a while because it would put 'excessive stress on the engine'?!

I would of thought the opposite would be true, the engine would be less restricted, hence less work to do.

I rang up Mongoose and Magnex, they didnt know their **** from their elbows.

Anyone have any ideas? Is is unsafe to fit an aftermarket, decat exhaust so soon after buying it?

Both our cars had full SS fitted after a couple of weeks old - and you KNOW how good it sounds - goes like stink and I haven't managed to break it so far (touch wood)

Sounds like a load of old Sunilps

I never heard anything like that before. Might be worth speaking to someone like Hayward and Scott. I would have thought that they would know what they are talking about.

OI BJ,

You burger, munching, muppeteer,

Guess it's a bit like "take it easy until 1k", then at 1001 (+ an oil change)it's ok to thrash the nuts off it......because it's run in now, or maybe not

Mark. You know my oppinion

Question

I also heard FIRST hand that a decatt DP was not fitted to a tuners OWN car for the very same reason as Cem mentioned above!

I gues it may be something down to the back pressure and the engine being able to rev much more freely?

Mark, you will be happy to know I have been caning the living **** out of my car (not)!

I have been driving liberaly, and Sunil now says he heard the same. Can anyonw think of a logical explanation to this?

Cem

ps. I cant see H & S knowing too much about this, they dont seem the most technologically advanced outfit out there.

Just bought a new car myself and considering at least a downpipe.

Probably causes overboost, it did on my old car

Maybe i should wait a few months, although it will probably take a month for the exhaust to get here Any thoughts on either the scoobymania or scoobysport downpipe/backbox. Not sure if i want the full system again.

I don't believe this.

The only thing loading the engine is the driver - You're the one pressing the throttle after all.

It won't overboost if you're running it in properly (i.e. following the running in instructions).

Most dealers will fit PPP on delivery after all.

Cheers,

Alex

I think we are talking about just after the runin period. Done about 1500 miles now and don't want to overboost just yet PPP will probably not lean out the car (since its mapped correctly)

Mark said it really.
I am just having my 1000 mile service and I shall slowly, yet surely, start to stretch her legs a bit. I need to know if this will stress the engine at all.

Just remember that old bucket of bolts under your bonnet (no not your brain) will take serious boost whereas a UK spec Scoob engine sounds brilliant but is built out of recycled Lada water pump alloy - come on in the water's great

I realize we (Hayward & Scott) may not be the most technologically advanced outlet machine wise, we are only a small team with a huge amount of knowledge gained from many years working with the large rally/racing teams, ie. Fords & Mitsubishi. We hand make everything so as to know it will fit and is made properly. Got to be better than machines.
We have just had Hyper Turismo do a back to back with a leading Japanese big bore exhaust against ours on the Evo 6 and we produced 16 BHP more.
Once the engine is run in there is no reason why the exhaust cannot be changed for a sports one as Cem says it will put less load on the engine. Just look at the racing boys, they dyno test their engine (ie. run in) and then as they put it 'thrash the nuts off of it'
Any comments?

Racing engines don't need to last that long though do they?

I've already seized one engine in my very limited racing career

PS. Can't wait to get one of your scoobysport downpipe and backboxes shipped over
