Whining noise from engine - serious?

Question

Anybody know what causes this noise?

Starts just after thrash along motorway. I've come off the motorway and I'm driving along a short uphill stretch of road (40 limit) and then I turn into my estate and speeds drops down to 20-30. There's a strange gearbox type noise (almost like being in reverse) from the engine which varies with revs. The engine performance, clutch and gear changes are normal. Noise gone by next morning.

Any thoughts?

I'm not an expert but check your gearbox oil level.

Scotty.

PS: Should be silver dipstick between intercooler and turbo. Oil is clear so check carefully.
