Question

Thought that I had posted this question a few days ago, but can't find it anywhere...

I have an Sti-8 and wonder whether I will get a greater benefit from a downpipe or a centre section?? (Can't afford both).
My car is completely std at the moment.
If I go for DP do I need celfix? If I go for Centre-Section do I need Celfix?

Cheers

Would advise a REMAP if you go the down pipe route because you'll lose the cats.

Remap takes care of the CELFIX in the ECU, fuel & timing are adjusted also to take into account the freer flowing exhaust. ECUTEK remaps are about £750 inc VAT (dont quote me on exact figures) and can be done by PAT, Bob Rawle, Power Engineering etc. If you decide to go for the remap it would be better to get yourself the full system and some induction mods so the remap takes care of it all, saves time and money in the long run.

Question

Only planning the DP, funds won't stretch to the full system + the wife drives the car a fair bit and I don't reckon that she would appreciate the extra power, but especially not the extra noise!!

if your just going to change the downpipe, I believe you dont have to go to the expense of a ECUTek, but a boost gauge mite help in case of spiking (correct me if I'm wrong)

you will get a CEL though but this can be cured by a CEL fix from scooby sport

try a search for "downpipe" or "CEL Fix", I know I asked enough Q's about it a few weeks ago and the guys on here didnt let me down

should be getting both my up & down pipe fitted tomorrow + a CEL fix if all goes well, you'll also have to modify the turbo heatshield

Phil

BTW have you managed to find the cause of your problem yet Conrad ?

I have an STI8 with just a de-cat downpipe (& ppp backbox) and then fitted the delete box on recomendation (I assume it's the same as a CEL fix), this has caused all sorts of probs (low boost etc)... Garage has since taken the delete box out and everything is now bonkers normal again.. I do not get any warning lights from the dash and the car is now pulling 1.4bar with ease..
Different beast totally, recommend a d/p over the centre section de-cat anyday.

Scooby L, Cheers
Sounds like you have tried the centre section versus the downpipe?
What is the major differences between the two?

sorry,

May have miss-led u mate, I have only had the d/p de-cat and the reduction in turdo lagg (due to the larger bore and lack of cat) is something I feel you would not get with a centre section de-cat(to the same degree).
If you are looking to budget your mods (Like I have to) then it's the obvious place to start, the quicker the gasses can cool/escape from the turbo downpipe area, the happier your turbo will be to spin up, thus pickup on my 8 starts at 2,200-2,500rpm as opposed to 3,200 on the standard car.
I think it now feels more like the PPP in responsiveness, with a future re-map to help maintain boost at high revs.
Hope this answers you questions
Kyle
