I need as much advice on modding the fuel injectors in my 95 WRX. The bottom end has been modified (forged pistons & rods, bearings, oil pump & fuel pump. The ECU is being re-mapped next week and I'd like to have as much power as I can squeeze out with the TD05 turbo & standard intercooler just now.
I've been informed a cheap easy mod to do is uprate the injectors. Can any1 advise ?

Surely if the ECU is being modded, then by fitting bigger injectors "afterwards", the remap will be "out of the window" as it will of been mapped with the originals still in.
You may find that once remapped, the injector pulse time will of been extended to accomodate higher fuel demands, by fitting bigger bore units afterwards will simply then lead to overfuelling and piston head burn.

Thanks for the reply m8, but I'm looking to have the larger injectors fitted before it gets remapped, hence me asking for all of the info on what I will need.

I would say 550s mate. Also if you want nice power late, you got the bottom end to do so. 550s should run just over 400bhp. Andy F uses it on his and i know Tweenie rob did on his.
550s from Scoty for about £280, adaptors from Pavlo (cant remember the price but not expensive) and thats it

Oh yeah i didnt mean you can hit 400bhp with std TD05 and TMIC.
380s get to just over 300bhp.
440s not sure
550s - andy is hitting 440bhp
So 550s seem the best unless you go for stupid power!

cheers guys.
So 550's would be better in the long run but its at least 12-18 months away b4 I can get the turbo & fmic. If I'm getting the map done with 440's I could expect reasonable power <350bhp. If I go front entry TD05 & FMIC I can expect a little more

Yeah i would say 350bhp seems achievable.
I think even if you went turbo and fmic, 350bhp will still be your max and you would need to think about 550s.
But if turbo and fmic is 12-18months away, might as well go 440s.
Or depends what you get charged for the 440s. lol

I doubt you'd make 350 with a standard TD05 and topmount. I beleve 350 has been done with a TD05 but with a front mount.
I'd say you're looking at a wee bit over 300, 320maybe at a push.
440's would handle that if you use a good fuel pump and FPR. I've been told that the standard ECU won't idle properly on 550's.
BTW changing injectors alone will not give you any performace increase.

350 is just about achievable with TD05 and OEM top mount. I've seen it done.
You would need an uprated pump and reg and copious amounts of octane booster and most definately a knocklink!
I wouldn't want to run it like that for too long, but at least it's possible.
Cheers

I'd have to agree with RB5 above. My MY94 WRX maxed out at 294 bhp with 440 (already swapped from the 380's as these were already maxed out at 290bhp) injectors and the TMIC. Merv said the TMIC was the limiting factor as he couldn't safely add any more ignition advance with the charge temperature so high. So I swapped to a FMIC and that took it to 330bhp , but with the 440's maxed out, so I swapped to 550's, still got 330 bhp but at 85% IDC (new walbro pump but std. regulator). This has all been done on the std TD05.

I've run 369bhp on a front entry td05 and a top mount. The top mount was converted to a charge cooler though
550's can make 440 bhp with 4 bar atmo fuel pressure.

I got an indicated 360 on td05 FE, standard 440's at 98.7% and (uprated) tmic....ambient was -5 degrees though, wouldn't have got away with that timing otherwise
I still cannot replicate it one year later due to higher ambients so far this winter. What hope for my tmic'ed ej25 .....WI here I come

Simon,
Swiss police would issue a rather large fine if found out, and car needs to be inspected every 3 years for 'originality'. Still, I'm kidding myself that I'll pass a roadside inspection even now so I may as well bite the bullet....especially as aircon is coming out this winter
I'll still be running the ej25 with tmic initially to see whether it's a viable upgrade package with everything else standard looking.
