Question

I see some of you have have these, I have my stiIV booked in at P.E for a service and AP brake kit and I was considering a Blitz Induction Kit aswell! What is the difference in induction noise etc?? Does it sound good under acceleration? Any comments will be appreciated.

Had one for about 5 months.

Sound is awesome. Quality is fantastic.

Look is great.

Power engineering put the car at 267 bhp, six higher than standard. Only mod being the airfilter, running 98 instead of the required 100 ron.

Machine may have been way off, but that put my 260 bhp wrx only just behind an sti 2 (275 ps) with a full exhaust system.

Worth it for the sound alone.

I have a K&N that gives the same results for less than half the price!!
Granted, it's not made of steel mesh and therefore may not look as 'sexy' but who cares?
Only needs cleaning every 100,000 miles or so anyway.
I bet there's very little between them.

Stef.

Was thinking about this aswell.

Could you describe the sound?

I used to have an HKS mushroom filter, and really didn't care for the sound (woooosh that's all). Is it the same, or do you get more of a roaaaarrrrrh!

On the previous car (integra type-r) the induction kit was awesome. OK, I probably looked a bit of a prat from the outside, but the driving experience on the inside is what counts isn't it?!

I find the WRX engine quite quiet, but the exhaust bloody loud. On the integra it was the complete opposite. But unfortunately it was all noise and no acceleration, so it just had to go :-)

Guys,

The induction roar depends on the engine you are running amongst other factors. Cone filters are very noisy on pre 97 engine cars (smaller intercooler mounted at an angle, coilpack ignition, big black flamebox in induction path).

The cone filter sounds much less harsh on post 96 engines (bigger intercooler mounter straight and ignition coils mounted on top of the induction manifold) with their redesigned induction routing.

I had an HKS filter on my older style engine, quite noisy. I have a Blitz cone on my newer style (sti 3) engine. I much prefer the blitz unit as it has a much better sound, it's dry, so it doesn't weep filter oil(eg HKS) or require special cleaning kits (eg K+N), and it works well with my engine.

If you have a post 96 engine, I can say that the blitz works well and sounds great. It even amplifys the standard subaru blow-off-valve nicely, so you get a whole load of new sounds that are not too over-the-top.

Whatever filter you choose, make sure you get the right kit for your car, don't try to fit a generic or 'similar model' kit as it won't have all the necessary adapters to plumb in the cars vaccuum breather system properly, so leading to possible/probable engine damage!

PS: I got a 10% discount on my Blitz filter from RaceLogic because I am a SIDC member. Excellent service with next day delivery, IIRC. Worth considering if you are a member and want to save yourself 17 squids.

If you know your socket set from your posidrive screwdriver you shouldn't have any difficulty in fitting the filter yourself, just take your time and remember the bracket you want is the GC8 (or GF8) one (Impreza rather than Legacy!). Fit it yourself and that's another 35 squids saved.

Cor, that's 52 squids saved, Save the squids!

SCOOBY HEALTH WARNING:
As I stated before, the filter is fairly straightforward to fit IF you are competent with mechanical things... Don't go to halfords, buy the cheapest socket set you can find, go home, spend 20 minutes working out how to open the bonnet and then attempt to fit the filter as your first foray into the weird and wonderful world of the oily messy bits... It could easily end in tears!

You have been frightened, sorry, warned!

I read an article about some testing done based on filtered/performance/sound/looks/fit

APEX came out top, then K&N,SaRD,HKS,Blitz in that order. I hope you can read Japanese.

Hi Cem, (BlowDog)

I'd be happy to sort your filter for you, but I am hopeless with London.

Contact me off-line if you think a chat might help. Cheers.

But Cem, gradually youre spending towards that sort of money now anyhow? (d/p, back box, centre pipe, blitz, dump valve...)

Why not tell her that you need the Possum to rectify the poor fuel economy you're getting and thus will pay for itself (eventually) in improved economy.

Come on guys, read the report!!!
The Blitz's filtering ability is rated as poor!!!!
What's the main purpose of a filter??
Therefore, you pay twice as much for a very slight performance increase and POO filtering!!
Hmmmmm, jolly good.
The K&N rules and that's that.

Stef.

Stef,

Would you take any review in MaxPower completely at face value, ignoring the posibility that it might just be pants? Why is it that you have 100% faith in a car modding magazine that isn't even written a language (ok, big assumption coming, I'll be impressed if you can tell me I'm wrong...)you can read?
