Have just brought some new spark plugs and does anybody know the plug gap setting for the WRX platinum tip ones or if the need setting?

If they are the right plugs for the car they should be pre-gapped.

Pretty sure they should be 0.7mm - 0.8mm

What plugs have you purchased ie manufacturer and part number, generally plugs for the impreza should be gapped at 0.7mm but the type you are using could make a difference. there are some plugs that are NOT compatable with these cars.

Bob,the plugs are NGK,laser platinum,PFR6B.
Are these pre set or do they need to be set

I'd check them. It only takes minutes and if you don't already have a set then feeler gauges only cost a few pounds.

Or take your plugs to the shop and do them there.

They are the right plugs for an un-modded UK model though.

PFR7B are the colder plugs for STi's and highly modded cars.

Car is a wrx import.
Mods are, De cat and hks exhaust,forge dump valve,induction kit.
Are these ok as doenoffer says that they are right for a uk model?

You'll be OK with the PFR 6B if you are not highly modified. Sounds like you are running standard boost. Gap to 0.7 to 0.8mm as suggested. Don't rely on the gap out the box, they can be way out.
