P1 Cam belt change now @ 60K?
#3
Robinsons assure me it is 60K, there again they did ask if the P1 was an import. They also said that the service intervals had changed to 10K from 7.5K due to it being a 2001 model. It makes me wonder if they are confusing it with a 2001 MY01 WRX which they should not be. I think I will ring IM to clarify.
I was at Oulton on Saturday, only managed 5 laps due to brake fluid boiling.

Definatley sounds like they think it's a MY01.... doesn't that make you wounder if you want them working on your car if they don't know what a P1 is? Saying that the actaul mechanics may be good at their job and the person you spoke to on the phone could be a little dim?
Didn't think i saw you on track for that long.... are you on standard subaru 4 pots?

Tony,
I want to take it to Prosport as I trust them to do the job but that would then invalidate the warranty, can't win.
I lied only did three laps! I have the Prodrive/Alcon 330m brake setup but it must have rubbish fluid in as the pedal went VERY soft after the warm up lap. I know it's not my driving as I used to have a MY01 WRX and took that round Oulton on many occasions.

I am going to Oulton on the 29th Nov with new fluid and pads so should get a better run out. I did get a good few flaps in TKH's RA driven by RRH which made me feel rather sick!

Just spoke to IM and they say that all UK Turbos including P1s now have the cam belt changed at 50K not 45K. Non turbos are to be done at 60K. I asked for this in writing and they said I should ask my dealer to get me a new service book which will have the new schedules in.

Don't know if P1s are different, but with the other UK cars (Turbo 2000s) it depends on the chassis number. A "Y" in the chassis number denotes change at 60k. Otherwise it's 45k.
The change occured in 2000, so 1999 cars are prob all 45k and 2001 cars should all be 60k. It's only the MY00 cars which need to be checked for chassis numbers.

Sometimes I think we have too much information, long gone are days when we trundled along to the dealer and 'left it with them'.
I am going to stick with 60K as it says in the 'latest' service book and hope Subaru have got it right.

sillysi - I'm only going on what info was available to me at the time I had mine changed, which was about a year ago. IM may have changed their policy on this since then.
What I don't get though, is how they can change the service interval (re cambelt change). If they originally require it to be changed at 45k (as per your handbook) then how does that get extended to 60k, or even 50k as in your case. What's changed?
Saxo Boy - did you get a second opinion on this? A few threads asking this same question have produced conflicting opinions, even among those who are supposed to know.
I'm not doubting anyones comments on this, just repeating what I found out at the time I made enquiries, which was a while ago. As said earlier, I accept that things do change.

slow boy is right if there is a "y" in the chassis no. then it's changed at 60 if not then 45. and all 2001my cars if they are turbos should have it changed at 50 all n/a engines have it changed at 60 except the h6 which uses a chain

I am going to ring around few dealers and get a price for my 45K service, it will be interesting to see what they all say about the cam belt change, what's the betting I get a few different responses ;-)
Cheers for all the replies.

Its always been 60k for the P1/Sti5 versions
Thats what I've always been told
However being on the more risk averse side I change mine about every 30k!!!
Afterall the cambelt is only about £100 and it takes only about 1.5-2 hrs (tops) to change so piece of mine
ut just to re-iterate - official change on the P1/STi5 is 60k - so they are correct
