Has anyone tried mixing thinners with petrol to create higher octane, I know that it can be done, and is down within drag racing circles. Perhaps 1 part thinner to 6 parts Optimax. I know if you mix too much it can cause hardening of your fuel lines.

Is it worth trying?

I have heard of this too but have no experience of it. I think thinners is largely Toluene which explains the effect. I have no idea of proportions though.

thinners that I use is a mixture of Tolulene and Xylene

think there may be other bits in there but cant remember off the top of my head...

And I use it in a paint gun, not the car..

I'd agree, much sooner stick to something that has been "tried and tested", Dont like the "risk factor" or either blowing the engine up or worse still, me with it !

Mixing fuels sounds more like an "Arkwrights back garden shed special"

Andy F posted something on here a couple months back about a cheaper alternative he was using.
Not 100% sure but I think it was pure ethanol.

Thumbs up

Up to 10% ethanol or methanol does help a bit Approx the same improvement as a large dose of NF but cheaper

Do you use this all the time Andy, or do you use NF mostly?

Also, are there any side effects with using Up to 10% ethanol or methanol

Mostly use NF now as we have a local stockist. The only thing to watch with the alcohols is that it will weaken your AFR a bit, most cars can cope with this but best to check it anyway !
