cambelt change advice?
#1
My legacy twin turbo is 5yrs old with 77000km on the clock. The manual says that the cambelt shoud be changed at 4yrs or 100,000km whichever is sooner. I have been given mixed advice in that I should follow the mileage and forget about the age of the car. What do people recommend? It would probably take me another 12-18months to take it up to the 100k mark...(which makes the car 6-7yr old still on its original cambelt) i am worried about the cambelt going during this time.
In addition, I have asked around for the cost of the job and have been advised to change the water pump, "rollers?" and "bearings" at the same time as they're due to be changed too. All this is adding up to about 400-500quid just for the parts. What are the reccommendations here? What really needs to be changed along with the cambelt?
Thanks in advance.

Get the belt changed mate. The service intervals have time or mileage constraints, both for good reasons. The time factor exists, especially in this case as rubber perishes over time regardless if you do not run the car. I'm not sure about the water pump issue and bearings you mention, possibly someone else on here can advise on that but you will be paying out alot more than £500 if the belt snaps.

Thanks guys, I really agree that I should get it changed, but does anyone have an idea about needing to change the pulleys/bearings and the water pump at the same time? Apart from the cost, I feel stupid if I am changing parts which aren't realy necessary.

As per Subaru:
Every 100000kms or 4 yrs (seals at the same time)As for the rest ,no(water pump etc)unless u have issues with.
PS.Did mine today. My mate who works for Sub for yongs said he has not heard of any failure before scheduled service interval with some doing it on 150000kms?
