Question

I don't have an airbox, when I bought the car it had a cone filter on it? Where would the MAF sensor be?

Then again, I may have missed the airbox - dont normally go in the engine bay :-(

Angry

Over the last week or so my 99 STI has developed a problem when idling when hot. The revs drop to almost stall then go back to around a 1000 then drop again and so on.

It does not do this when cold. Any ideas?

Excuse my spelling! - was in a hurry

Mass Air Flow Sensor.

Sits in the air box..

Dealers sell them but you want the MAF only, not the whole box.

I thought GGR sold them too but cannot find them on there website

The air cone filter will be bolted to it.

The sensor has a plug with wires coming out.

What make of cone filter is it??

Unhappy

I have no idea what type of filter it is - I am not mechanically friendly! - if it goes I am happy otherwise its a case of finding someone else to fix it, I once tried to fit upgraded breakes to my last scooby (cost me £800 to fix) :-(

I will pop outside and have a look to see if I can find the MAF sensor

Thats it!

Dealer should have but as an import they might not be willing to help.

They are not that cheap though.. about £80+ if I recall correct.

Was hoping someone else might have called into the thread to back me up as if you spend your money and no improvement I'll feel quailty.

But from what you say it sounds just like the problem.

If they are a good dealer they might be able to plug the Select monitor in and check the readings from it etc..

Either way thanks for your help!

Extreme Scooby (off the A12) is on my way from London so I will pop in to them first! Has anyone been there?
