This morning I had a look down at my PSI3 display during WOT.
Was surprised to find that I was getting about 32deg advance at gear 3 WOT, approx 1.1bar and 4500rpm.

I was under the impression that 26-28 was about as advanced as one can get with pump gas (98RON).

Is 32deg BTDC possible?

EDIT: MY00 Bugeye JDM STI7 Type RA, 58000km, std boost control, std engine management, Aquamist 1s kit.

Well, for starters, you're not running pump gas - you have a water injection unit! That's the equivalent of raising the octane rating a couple of nothces.
I have no idea about the specifics of timing on the newer cars so can't say anything about that bit, though

32 deg @ 4500 RPM with 1.1 bar of boost is A LOT of advance! The WI seems to work well here. (assuming the engine doesn´t knock)

Mark.

Mark, KL is quiet. Max sensitivity. 1 green only above 6000rpm WOT , which I assume is engine noise.

I did think 32 BTDC is a lot. Which was why I thought I could be mis-interpreting the PSI3.

Skassa - you'll have to add the "unknown" base timing to that as well... It is rumoured to be around 10 degrees...

On my car I can get away with 9 degrees (1.55 bar) before it starts to tingle every now and then.
It'd be great to know for sure - setting the ignition advance limiter to 0 (in the link) and run a timing light at idle and see what happens...

Yes I would think 20deg on 1.5bar boost is "about right" for pump gas. (?)

Was under the impression that 26-28deg is max on 1.1bar boost, pump gas. Does WI really add another 4deg?

At 4,500 I'm also around the 10deg mark, but with a link (so 20ish, then ).
But the one with all the advance is a fugly, of which I have no ieda where the timing should be Except that 26-28 is normal... Should get 4 degrees additional with water injection (if it's something more than just water being injected ) which brings it fairly close to the 32?
