Unhappy

Have lost 3rd gear altogether so need a new/replacement box. Can anybody advise of a reputable company that can supply one. Additionally could a lower ratio box be fitted to a UK car as 5th is V long and top speed not a priority.
Thank you

i'd be interested in this to as my box has just gone.

Can i fit a 97 wrx box and diff on a uk99, and will it go straight on??

I assume acceleration would be better, but slower top end.

Sly fox, I have just spoken to Andy from Grade A in Hayfield Nr Manchester. He advised that WRX box will fit but needs the WRX diff to make a difference to accelaration (Lower top end but who needs 150mph anyway). Ordered both box & diff, delivery Tuesday. Just have to wait 2 weeks to get fitted. I do have 1,2,4,5,reverse to see me through til then though.

TSL can't do until early september, local trusted garage can only fit me in in 2 weeks, all to do with staff holidays. Would like to get done sooner, but additionally pay day soon. Just spent £750 on ap brake kit + fitting & £770 on gearbox & diff. Hospital have estimated on 2 weeks to take a kidney out and sell on the open market.

Well, got my box, wrx diff & brembos fitted today @ Xtreme scoobies and what a bunch of great blokes & good job they did to. With the WRX box & diff in, the car is noticably quicker mid range. V/pleased with outcome. Nice one Knowlsy for gettin in touch.

Congratulations on getting your close ratio box fitted. Do you know what the ratios are, or more interestingly what the gears came out of?

As far as i'm aware, its not the box thats close ratio, its the wrx diff I fitted in conjunction. I have had time to play last night and here's the difference:
98 UK Box & Diff WRX Box & Diff

1st gear 1st gear about same
2nd 60mph max 2nd 50mph max
3rd 90mph max 3rd 78mph max
4th 120mph max 4th 100mph max
5th 145+ I guess 5th not had opportunity but much lower

The marked difference is 4th & 5th. Where with the UK box 4th had fairly good oomph, 5th was to far to long and no good at anything less than 75mph.
The new set up is miles better for A road blasts as now it really goes in 4th & 5th from anything as low as 50mph even in 5th. So when you bobbing along your favorite road, your not having to porridge pot the gearbox to find the right gear on boost to get you going.
The only down side is when I go up North to see the folks as before the car cruised at 3000 rpm @ 80mph, now its nearer 3700rpm so it'll drink more Optimax, but best mod I've done to use the available power.
