Engines to hot????
#1
Hi all, last couple of days i've noticed my engines getting very hot, i mean you can even smell it.Is this normal? I know its been hot the last couple of weeks but its only been today and yesterday that i've really noticed it.
One other thing which may not have anything to do with it is, i had an mot done a month ago and on the emissions result sheet it said engine temperature assessment: coolant pipes hot.
Oh and the temperture gauge reads normal.
cheers

you could be experiencing "heat soak"
on extremely hot days....
my wrx takes FOREVER to cool down...
tends to run very very hot but the temp gauge is fine.
this is a side effect of a hot day
and a heat soaked engine...
great discussion on that topic here:

and if your temp gauge reads normal,
i wouldn't fret about it too much..

if its really hot i have the heaters on low and direct the hot air out of the windows.I only do this while standing in traffic mind and its an old trick i learnt of my old 205 gti.I think it might help from blowing the head gasket as well.I think!
