I had the gearbox oil changed in my 99 Type RA a couple of months ago. The general notchiness improved a lot, but when the car is warmed up/hot, the shift up from 4th to 5th is awful. It graunches and grates when going in. If I double clutch it, it goes in fine. And its fine when the car is cold.
Is this down to bad 'hot' performance of the gearbox oil?
Do I maybe need thicker gearbox oil, to compensate for the sychromesh getting worn?
Also, could it be crap clutch fluid that causing it?
The guys who service it used Castrol SAF-X gear oil. I mentioned Syntrax, but he said it wasnt good enough for the hi-end, quick-shift gearboxes...
Not sure what clutch fluid they put in though, but is it likely to be this?
Can anyone advise?
Many Thanks
