Cam Belt Not Changed at 45k service????
#1
Had my MY99 car for 2 months now, noticed in the service record that the 45k service was carried out at 38k (obviously 6 months came round quicker than the miles).
In the Subaru service booklet it says that the Cam belt should be changed at the 45K service, mine wasn't changed!!!!!!
I called the dealer who stamped the book, and he confirmed that it had not been changed, his resoning was that at the time, subaru could not decide to change the cambelts on the MY99 cars at 45k or 60k so it was left un-done, now though he said, Subaru have said that the cambelt does need changing at 45k and not 60k.
My car is now up to 44k and is going into a Subaru speacialists tomorow to get a silkolene oil change, new spark plugs, and to have the checks done that would be done on the Subaru 45k service.
Should I be paying the £££££££££ to get the cambelt done, or should I insist that the belt should have been changed at 45K?
If anybody can shed any light on this for me I would appreciate it!
Thanks

It should be done, as simple as that.
Either way you haven't yet paid for it, so it will cost you some extra this time, whoever does it.

If you bought it from the dealer then you may have a case for getting it done FOC since I'm guessing that you assumed you bought it with a full dealer service history, and they have admitted the belts not being done was an oversight. You'll have an even better case if you have extended the warrenty. However if it was from a private sale then I doubt you'll get any comeback. Its not as if the dealer has charged for the belt change and not carried it out, so the best thay will offer is to carry out the work for the usual dealer fee.
