How not to modify an oil pump
#1
This is a relief valve assembly from an uprated oil pump. Spot the "uprated" bit
The scoring on the piston is worse then it appears in the photo. You can actually feel it grate when you move it in the bore. This is after 6000mls.
Not very clever that, especially on a £5k engine...
This is NOT from RCM or Lateral P. btw.

Im surprised that the mod does go for a smooth plunger. In minis, and rover v8,s the modification removed the smooth plunger, and replaced it with a ball bearing, and modified the seat, so it sealed again. Obvioulsy there would be very little chance of a ball bearing siezing/sticking in the bore.

The pump came off an "uprated" engine built by C & K Manchester. It's been in my garage a year, so it might not be a current example of their work I believe they are no longer trading?
