Car Wont Start.
#1
98 Impi. Pulled on Drive. Went to go out again 15 mins later, turns over but just wont fire. Tried on and off for 20 mins. Then after doing search on here read about temp sensor. So i thought ok . Will try and fool it, so got housepipe out and poured cold water onto a sensor thats located right on top off engine diectly under alternator. Wot u know it started or be it a struggle. Question i have is
1, Is that where temp sensor is .??
2, Its a boiling hot day here so could this well be the problem.??
3,Anyone else had this problem and what have u done to do cure it.
4, Whats likely cost off sensor from scooby garage.
5, Had no check engine light at any time .
Any ideas you ladys and gents please.

The scoob can be a bit funny if you happen to touch the accelerator whilst trying to start it at all.. I have done this without realising at which point it won't start for love nor money unless you floor it.. strange but it works.
hose might be a coincedence.. not starting when warm is usually indication of crank or cam sensor.. cam sensor is very near oil filler and has a 12mm bolt on top and three(IIRC) wires coming out of it and the crank sensor looks identical but is on the front of the engine amoungst the pulleys..
It is just visible in the very top left of this picture behind cam cover in the picture
If it reoccurs then try cleaning them but the faulty one will probably need replacing. They work through the dirt they accumilate but get weaker as they get older.. so cleaning should get you out of trouble.
But I would assume you accidently touched the loud pedal whilst cranking.
Symtoms of the coolant sensor going is fan on when cold and lumpy when hot as the ECU is not sure whether the car is hot or cold so covers both eventualities. I think below the alternator is the temp sender for the gauge but the ECU uses another one on the back of the engine. Never touch wood had to do anything with the temp sender on mine.
You will get a Engine management light for the coolant sensor and normally the car will still start.

Steve, hope you got that problem fixed. Have you had the wheels done yet?
We met at Shropshire meeting, can we sort something out on those foglight covers?
Let me know mate and I'll send you a cheque.
