Hi,

Going to fit an SPA dual Oil Pressure/Temp guage and have been told I need an adapter since the Scoob has a different thread to the 1/8" NTP of the SPA sender.

Can anyone confirm what the thread on the Scoob bung is?

I found this supplier. Hopefully they have what I need.

If you mean the bung in the 3rd cyl galley way - it's M18. You can buy a Subaru bung with what looks like a 1/8" BSP hole in it.

An NPT thread is very similar to BSP, but won't fit into the bung, however, a NPT hole will take a BSP sender. (strange but true...)

The thread size on the OEM pressure switch also looks like 1/8" BSP. Again, it's a threaded hole in an M18 plug.

Don't do what I did, and put an adaptor with a small head into the hole, as the chances are it will leak like a sieve! Luckily it was spotted in time

Le Mans motorsport sorted my adaptors out. (should arrive tomorrow or Saturday)

Question

So what exactly did you order from them? Was it an M18 to 1/8 NPT adapter for both the oil temp and oil pressure bungs on the Impreza engine?

It's more complicated for me, as I have Autometer gauges, and the pressure sender won't fit under the altenator, and won't fit easily in the plug on 3. (Well, I don't think so anyway...)

I bought 1 of these: ADAPTOR M18*1.5 to 1/8NPT (LMA067)
and got them to make up a piece of braided hose with a bsp fitting on one end to go into the bung, and an NPT fitting on the other to go to the sender. I made a metal P clip to hold the sender on the altenator bracket.

The low oil pressure switch is damn near useless anyway - it's more of a "your engine has already died" light!! it only comes on at 1.5 PSI! I'm not worried about losing this "feature".

They were very helpful over the phone, and knew what I was talking about. We'll see how well they understood on Saturday... Scott.T used them to get sump plug adaptors made up, so they are familiar with Imprezas.

Dan,

As far as I can make out your options for Temp sensor are a)Sump, b)top of cyl #3 or c) drill somewhere else in the sump.

Other posts mention that air flow plays a part with the Sump fittng, so would not give accurate readings. Most of the posts I found searching through SN suggest using the top of cyl #3 as this appears to be the hottest part.

Thumbs up

Dnb,

Thanks for that. I had a good nosey around their site just after I posted my last question to you. I also found a really useful old post that backs up what you have just said.
