Best Turbo replacement for STI 4 engine?
#3
I want to run as close to 400BHP as I can without killing the engine or gearbox. I do not want to go past that figure with the engine I have and would go the 2.5 route or even by an Evo but that will be in another few years anyway.

If you don't want the gearbox to fail you'll have to ***** foot about with the torque a bit. A flat 1.5 to 1.6 bar on a few turbos should get you pretty much near to or just over 400 BHP. If you avoid the midrange hit of extra boost it will save your gearbox from quite as much torque, but I suspect your gearbox will suffer big time if these are your targets.

John, Would this be the case even on an Sti box? Now hoping to run a TD05 front entry and now changed to a more conservative 360-370.

If you run 360-370 you'll be running it on the edge. I hope you've planned a FMIC, and really you'll want headers and water injection to mean you don't have to run octane booster in massive quantities. Rather than the 05 think about an 05/06 20G hybrid at lower boost.
