A question for anyone with an HKS FMIC, did you remove the rubber tmic shield and associated bracket as shown in the photo? as I think mine is hitting the intake pipe and causing some nasty vibrations at idle.

correct me if I am wrong but isnt the positive terminal of the battery awfully close to a brilliant conductor of electricity which liable to contact bits connected to the engine which is grounded, such as the fuel rails?

it looks like vibration could quite easily cause the pipework, in time, to rub through the insulation on the positive terminal.

sorry, I may just be being paranoid, just wouldnt like oto see a fire.

What are you doing with a standard bonnet anyway, Jake? Trying to be less aerodynamic? Remove the scoop at least, or get a lighter bonnet, the standard one weighs a ton!

You might find the pipe coming from the compressor outlet vibrates on the pitch-stopper mount as well.....bit of rubber will sort it.......

I removed the offending article as well...tried blocking it up but that was a bad idea...

Adam, you obviously have neverlooked under the bonnet of my car the battery terminal is quite a way away from the pipe work, but the pipe does touch the battery...well with the standard battery at least

Interesting thread

I went for the old pipes (From MY97) for my SIT-V, for me its better as the pipework for the drivers side can then allow me to run any induction kit, rather than being forced to run a Super Flow or Racing Suction.

I only installed mine this weekend, (Not finished yet - damned weather) so i'll probably take off the rubber surround under the scoop too.

Did anyone else have any probs with the passenger side drip tray (Under the bonnet vent) hitting the pipework? - It seems without the drip tray in the bonnet closes fine, but with it on the pipe hits it......

I dont think my blanking plates touch the pipework, but something is definately touching as the whole car almost shakes when the idle speed drops to its lowest.

Exclamation

James,

if you've taken it off, does the water not drip right onto the battery tho?

Sorry Jake, Don't mean to hi-jack your thread, but it seems we've got 'similar' probs

I have just looked and both the drip trays (blanking plates) are rubbing on the pipework, what's the best thing to do can you run ok without them???

Toby, Jake, James???

From memeory observing various cars with the HKS FMIC fitted, although i have the APS fitted on mine, on the HKS cars they all seem to have had the studs shortened that the bonnet vents mount to. Hope thats clear.

On my car, and on other HKS i have seen the under bonnet vent removed.

On mine its actually the vent cover thats causing the problem, I have removed the bolts that rub, but as the cover isn't flat it fouls the pipework. If it isn't a good idea to remove the covers then I might cut away the metal that touches.

Or just leave them off, its easier and looks better too

Leave it with me mate

What i'll do is....

Take the original tray as a template to a metal fabricator (There is one about 10 mins from my house), i'll get him to make a pair, all you would need to do is epoxy or silicone seal some rubber around the edge to stop the water coming thru the gaps as it were, and then bolt onto the original 3 mounting points, obviously the tray won't be as deep as the original to avoid it hitting the pipework, whilst still being able to deflect the water away from the battery

lol

Under the bonnet vent above the battery there is a metal tray, held on by 3 nuts...

Water drips thru the bonnet vent and then into the drip tray which allows it to drain away from the battery....

Thanks Steven as always

Jake,

If you've got a mappable ecu such as a link then the MAF is redundant, so taking the drivers side drip tray out won't / should not cause any probs.

It's the passenger side one that worries me the most, as the rain water can then drip straight onto the battery +ve terminal, which is not a good thing imo....

Looking at mine, it's not the studs which hold the tray on but the top left corner of the drip tray itself which is causing the fouling onto the pipework as it's actually longer than the studs if that makes sense?

My thinking is quite simple (No narky comments lol ), get a sheet of alloy (Easy to work with), and cut an exact template of the normal drip tray out, have it bending slightly backwards ie back towards the windscreen and use shorter spacers to mount it to the existing studs, this way the rain water will flow say towards the windscreen washer resevoir and therefore taking it away from the battery.....I'm going to look into this on the weekend as i've had this manky flu bug since friday and still feeling extremely ropey

I thought the same except the shape of the covers wraps around the mounting points to form a seal, if you make some covers up would they only need to deflect water away from the battery instead of stopping it enter the car completely. As unless you have water tight seal then the water will still get in just not land directly on the battery. The other thing is where could I get some alloy???
