Which Back Box is Best...?
#1
Ordering a new MY03 WRX and wondered what back box to get. Scoobysport is my preference but does anyone know if its better/worse than the prodrive one? Is it louder, noise is important? Any others that are better/cheaper.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Again the Prodrive is a Scorpion, so why noy buy one of those.
The Warranty argument will only come into play if you fully decat the car. Subaru accpet that virtually everyone changes the BB and centre cat, which is part way to the PPP mod anyway.
Read the warranty book and interperet it properly. Only the mod isn't covered.
I thought the warranty on BB's has been hammered to death
Have you honestly heard of anyone having warranty issues because they have changed the BB ? I don't think so

Bad advice from you Steve777.
If you modify your car with non-standard parts you MAY invalidate your warranty.
You do have a choice of official warranted modifications through your dealer or you can go the aftermarket route instead, I have done both in the past and with my current factory modded STi7 I sleep a lot better.
It's your decision and I'm not agreeing with Subaru/IM policy on what you may and may not modify on your vehicle, but you should be aware of the consequences.

If I remeber rightly the case you are talking about with the Sti7 had a hell of a lot more mods done to it than just a BB and centre section.
I had spoke about this to my dealer who confirmed the above.
It would take a lot more than changing a BB and centre section to give piston melt down. Remeber there are cases of No3 piston failure on standard Sti7's

I completely agree with BL A Japanese exhaust is the way to go! the quality of the weld and the general construction is excellent, and they are all Friggin noisy!!
I'd go for a Blitz Nur spec (back box or system), however offerings from HKS are good too. The Hyper Muffler is louder than Super dragger so its personnal preference really! (remember though the Nur Spec 'System' is full stainless whereby the HKS models are not -only the back boxes are!)
If you are feeling really rich then I'd try to find a Trust or 5 Zigen as these are rare, noisy, good quality and if you get a 5 Zigen then the baffles are adjustable to make it as excrutiatingly loud or as quiet as you like
Hope this helps.

ScoobySport without a doubt. Others like Blitz and HKS are too harsh for Scooby warble, the SS one rounds the noise off too the most sexy, throaty roar. You know it makes sense, they designed it totally and utterly for the Scoob, it ain't off the shelf like some.
ScoobySport doesn't affect warranty at all.
I had SS b-box on my Version 6 WRX, nothing I've heard yet made the noise like that. Not too noisy in the cabin either, got a bit louder though when I did the downpipe too.

Then theres always TSL's firestorm which i sold my scoobysport one for. For me its great as i dont use the motorway too often and the sound is truly awesome. Scooby sport one looked a bit soft on my car. Note i said my car!

agree with triple x.
it has to be the firestorm and now @ only £250
and as for warrenty it depends on how you personally get on with your dealer. i've bought the managers company car which was modified. When i've had claims, my full decat hasn't come into question.

Sensible answers include telling somebody thats new to this bbs that his warranty may be affected if he changes his back box.
Just because your dealer is happy with mods doesn't mean McCrash's will be.
Blitz is best imo by the way.
