When slowing down and trying to change into first gear, does it sometimes crunch and spit the gear out?
Or should it only be put into first when almost stationery?

sorry, think i got it wrong - reading my post, it was misleading LOL
It didnt pop out, more like when i was trying to go into gear it crunched and wouldnt go in first time..as if id tried to change without the clutch.

the only gear that doesn't have syncro is reverse, the other five have syncros, changed 1-3rd on mine due to said problems
you could also spend 30 quid on some Castrol Syntrax gearbox oil, works wonders for dodgy gearboxes

My MY00 has never liked first gear, I park in a multi-story car park every day and it is a right pain driving down the ramps when it is cold as I virtually have to stop to engage first. Otherwise I have to roll down in second with the clutch dipped. I think they all are like this to one extent or another - my first service that involved a gear box oil change made it a lot better though.
