loosing the harmonic dampner, good idea?

I would like to get a set of lightened pulleys for a bugeye, but have a question regarding the crank pulley. Does loosing the harmonic dampner by replacing the pulley put the crank shaft under undue vibrational stresses. Anyone else tried this?
