i've heard that free flow filters cause more engine wear because of very small dust coming through which normal filter stops. Your opinions?

I think engine wear wouldn't really be a problem unless your planning on driving somewhere very dusty like the sahara desert. The filter would be more liable to cause damage to the mass air flow sensor.(depending on model you have)ie.my99 have the fragile sensors.

The MAF is a standard sensor on all cars, that measures the amount of air flowing into the engine through the induction system.

IIRC - the MY99-00 car has a particular type of sensor that is suceptable to contamination and damage leading to failure when certain "free flow" filters or induction kits are fitted.

Not a problem I have though as I have a MY98. A freind of mine ran a K&N induction kit on his MY99 for quite some time without problem if this is any help.
