Clutch replaced under warranty but....
#1
A week ago I had my clutch and flywheel replaced under warranty due to clutch judder on my MY00.
The judder has gone and gear changes at low to medium revs are silky smooth but now I've got another problem!
When changing from 2nd-3rd,3rd-4th and 4th-5th at 6K the clutch engages and the revs drop down as they should but about a second later I get an almighty jerk and what can be best described as a thud coming through the transmission. It's like someone has just run into the back of me.
The dealer says it's the latest clutch design from Subaru and the first one they've fitted so they haven't got a clue.
Anyone got any ideas or suggestions?
Jason

I get this - and I'm still on my original jerky clutch on my MY00.
There have been threads about it before, and I thought "transmission thud" was just a feature of the car...
Or is your thud more violent?

It's a violent thud! Like someone hitting the back of the car.
It didn't do it before they changed the clutch and I didn't experience it on my previous car MY97.

Hmmm - maybe a bit more serious than mine then.
If you lived up here, I'd suggest you came for a short run in my car to compare. I do get a very noticeable thump through the transmission between gear changes, if I'm really pressing on.
Yours sounds like a more "agressive" clutch causing a shock wave through the transmission when it engages.
I suppose it's back to the dealer again if you're not happy with it...
Can't offer any other advice I'm afraid.

I know
Excise my French, but thy're Wonkers.
I had two new clutches in MY99, at 23, and 26,000 miles under warranty, its now done 34,000, its out of warranty and juddering again.
Where do I stand with that then anyone(Subaru staff welcome to answer).
Yeah thats what I thougth, nowhere probably.
But like my Murphy's.... I' not bitter - much!
I expect I will be buying a new clutch and flywheel and get the job done properly
I assume theres nothing else it could be? they seem to be suseptible to it. Strangely mines worse when its really cold, just for the 1st minute or 2.

LANMAN, as your latest clutch has gone at low mileage I guess you're reasonably entitled to a new one? I had a bad one on my old frester which was replaced at 12k miles. I then got a new forester at which time my dealer said that the clutch was improved over the old one. However, this clutch is having the odd judder, and the dealer's offered me another improved clutch, however the judder isn't bad enough to warrant it.(Ie. the sort of fault that happens so rarely the dealer wouldn't pick it up). Whe nthe irst clutch was replaced the dealer asked me if I towed (no) and told me that as long as the clutch wasn't burnt out it would be done under warranty, which I think is perfectly reasonable.

Thanks All
Blitz, I guess the problem i face now is whether to get it done or not, if its only a cold issue, and not putting any unneccesary stres on gearbox, etc I may leave it.
What are your thoughts
