How much quieter is the Nur Spec with bung
#1
Can anyone tell me if the silencer/bung makes much difference? ie decreases the volume(inside the cabin) by what sort of percentage? Is it still really intrusive at Motorway cruise speeds?

I don't find it intrusive at all, but then i have a standard Cat'd DP I find it is more acceptable at 90 rather than 80 coz the note seems to smooth out rather than hearing the 'boxer beat'
The bung does make it quite a bit quieter but looks crap too

I've still got the standard downpipe on my STi7 so not decatted, but when I put the nur spec R on I only kept the bung in on the first day. Since then its been big audio dynamite the whole time . The bung does look rubbish, and is only held in by the one bolt through the bottom of the backbox, so has a tendency to vibrate and rattle annoyingly.
I did find out that un-bunged it seems louder in 6th at around 100mph. But it depends what you like and after a while you just take it for granted. I wouldn't recommend one if you're into ICE and want to hear everything.....oh and don't expect to go anywhere unnoticed
But its one of the best mods I've done and is putting me off getting the PPP as I don't want to lose it.

Ive got a decatted Scorpion downpipe and a Blitz nurspec.
Without the bung the smile factor is amazing VERY loud and a real headturner but get it on the motorway and it drones all the way through the cabin, it gives me a headache to be honest.
With the bung in I would say it is 50% quieter in the cab and the exhaust note is less "Bassy".
Personnaly I drive with the bung in and take it out if I fancy a laugh for a day or so.

So basically with the bung in 50 % quieter in the cabin, virtually no drone on Motorway, and can hear stereo well.Is that right?
I think it drones on the Motorway with the bung in and is about 30% quieter with the bung in. I also wouldn't say you can hear the stereo very well at all, even with the bung in!! (IMHO!!)

Hmm, can't agree with the Mutant on this ! (he likes gold wheels too)
I find with the bung in that it's almost as quiet as standard, no droning at all.
Dr Deep, been away all weekend, back now obviously YHM

And the moral to this story, it will be different on every car depending on what system setup you have
i.e. I've got a standard STi and it's too quiet. I had an MY00 with just a PPP BB and it was nearly what I was after (except not enough bass). I've been in lots of full Scoobysport Decatted cars of various ages and IMHO, they are all just a little too loud to live with, day to day and on the motorway. The NUR spec with the bung in IMHO is a lot louder than that and without the bung - OH MY GOD!!!!!
So, who else wants to quantify their "it's not very loud at all" statements?

Yes very subjective I know. Also differs alot from car to car.Full SS exhaust on my old STi4 Type R was mental loud.Full SS in my STi7 is almost too quiet! Obviously STi7 has a bit better sound proofing and there is intervidual variation for the same brand of exhaust.Bought the exhaust now so too late! Worst case I'll sell it on!

Admittedly you all do much lower mileage than I do and it's possible that I have become immune to the noise, but I can hear my phone carkit/ice etc perfectly and my missus doesn't even nag me about the noise when on long trips.
Maybe they changed the bung design ?

Dr Deep,
I have a different system to yours (TSL derived Group N stuff). When I first had it on the car I hated it, could'nt hear myself think! My instant reaction was to load up the boot with Dynomat to kill the sound from that area, as the boot was acting as a massive sound amplifier/resonance box!
Over time the whole system has gone a lot quieter simply because it has now carboned/coked up. Surely this is likely to happen to your system over time, making the "pain" short term?

Goon,
I was in an STi 3 which is probably louder than the 99/00 cars and the STi 7 is a lot quieter inside than the old shape too!!! (so thay may explain it!)
I thought it got louder as it coked up?

Naah, it gets mellower, the sharp edge goes away as it cokes up.
My Nurspec (Scoobysport DP) is F_O loud all the time, better get hold of that bung before I turn deaf over the *******.

Thanks guys.Deal is done now so no going back.I needed a 3" exhaust for my plans and the Blitz does look so good! The 7 is defo much quieter than the classic.I can always try the dynomat stuff(already have heavy duty carpet underlay in the boot).
I'll be fitting aftermarket headers at some point which are also supposed to make things a bit quieter aswell.
Thanks all,Deep.
