just had my p1 decatted and now its whistling like a good un except i think it sounds like the exhaust is blowing slightly at the front, doesnt sound bad, is it just me? it kinda sounds like its coming from the end of the downpipe and not where the downpipe bolts to the turbo, anyone had this or is it normal to sound a little funny when accelerating (hope you know what im meaning )
thanks guys

Mine used to sound like a very quite metaly rattle, then I was told it's the wastegate opening that makes the sound, might be a different sound to yours, try leaving it running and sticking your hand around the join to the centre section, see if you can feel it blowing, if you've literally only just fitted it, it might be that the metal ring gasket thingy need to soot up a bit, thats how they seal!

Thumbs up

When I had my MY00 decatted I thought it was leaking all over the place! Apparently though, with the decat you can just hear all the usual noises, just amplified somewhat

Have you had your P1 remapped for the decat? Seems to be a few different opinions on here but the likes of John Banks and the man from Prodrive reckon it's a bad thing to decat the P1 without it... Going to wait til I can get mine remapped before I decat
Enjoy

Editted because the man from Prodive knows nothing about this but the man from Prodrive probably does.

I had the same, a very metalically rattle at about 3-4000 revs when accelerating hard.

Subsequently I've taken the decat off again and am going to wait for a remap before putting anything back on.

i have emailed loads of companies and all have said its fine to run a p1 without a remap. scoobysport in particular have decatted 100's of p1s so they should know what there talking about, as far as im aware what you are doing shouldnt alter the fuelling in any way just by removing the cat. there is no rattle just a little blowing sound, it might just need a few miles to soot up, car goes in for a service soon so will get subaru to check it for me then.

Wink

p1 tud
I remember the thread on here when Pete Croney (Scoobysport) and Mike Wood (Prodrive) were "discussing" the relative merits of decatting. At the end of the day the man from Prodrive said don't do it and that's good enough for me
Enjoy!

p1 tud,

you should really get a remap done, better than messing up the engine, plus you'll get tonz more torque and power!! and the relative safety of it all running nicely!

you might like to email bob rawle @ brd developments and ask him about the pros'n'con's

i had a p1 with a scoobysport de-cat downpipe and milltek straight center and backbox, with a tek3 remap, and got around 320bhp!! the torque was extremely good, and the car pulled alot easier and stronger thru the gears.. (mind u had a couple of other mods aswell
