whats max safe power/torque available on 95ron? I drive a standard Euro spec turbo here in Ireland, MY00 td04 etc... SUL is rarer than rocking ***** sh*te so tek 3/PPP etc are unsuitable IMHO, can EcuTek/BR etc remap for 95 ron if so whats the best I could expect?
Cheers
ps: Im aware of octane boosters but in terms of safety/longevity (wallet safety!!!) id like to know whats poss with a 95ron map

hi John thx for the prompt response, are there gains to be had over the standard map? is it worthwhile, as ive siad relying on 98+ ron is not really an option here to behonest, even when u can find SUL u cant gaurantee the quality
so the best i can see is to map with 95 ron?!?
Cheers

Fivepint,
Just for interest, I too have a my00, with a full sboobysport system, panel filter and Dawes set to a mere 1BAR, mI have tried running my car on Optimax, reset ecu etc, but the car just didn't like it, it runs fine on regular 95octane, so thats what I use, I had the car on the rollers on saturday, and got 270 bhp on the first run, and 259 on the second, I suspect the heat was starting to build up, but still, 260's fine for me, simple mods, reliable, and quick!
And all on regular fuel, available anywhere!

I think it was 168, haven't got it on paper though, the torque was almost exactly the same figure as the bhp, I'm happy, apparently it's running nice and rich too! still on 802 ecu!

Just wanted to add that my MY00, fitted with a Tec2 has always been run on 95ron, as was the Scooby I had before that, both ran perfectly happily on it and were quite fast enough in my opinion!
Maybe they could have been a tiny bit faster on SUL or Optimax, but i am inclined to think that is more due to a placebo effect than any real gains.

thx for the info lads, those figures seem to be pretty good for a UK turbo IMHO, im more worried about potental det with 95ron when raising boost, is there any limit that peeps would reccomend?

Ron, 102 BHP losses at that level of power are rather high. Looking at the dyno site your power at the wheels is more in keeping with a 255 BHP flywheel, which is still impressive, but 270 BHP with your mods is rather optimistic IMHO. But then trying to get accurate figures out of rolling roads seems to be a bit of a joke anyway. You have made as much power as some cars with big turbos, FMICs and more boost on other rollers

Warning thread hijack ahead..
..what if I got Tek 2 remap with the intention of using 97/98 RON but it is occasionally not available and I have to use 95RON - apart from suboptimal performance are you gonna hurt anything compared to standard ECU or PPP??

Fivepint,
My car was mapped (several times) by Mervyn at Power Engieering. Car is running a standard TD05 (straight entry is the next mod), and has a standard bottom end (crank, rods) rebuilt at 75000 miles with new bearings/shells (for no other reason than it was apart). To this I have added Cosworth pistons (STi spec), STi IV Head gaskets, STi V heads (ported on the exh side), modified early inlet manifold (to fit heads), 550cc injectors, Walbro fuel pump, Blitz induction kit, Pace FMIC, scoobysport downpipe, centre and back box.
Power was achieved on PE rolling road, at a modest 1.2 bar peak, 1.1 held. Peak torque at 4000 rpm. Redline moved from 7000 to 7400, where it is still very strong (and hopefully won't destroy the engine too quickly) Car has been running for the last 5000 miles at this spec.
Cheers
Stuart
