Hi people, I have just registered. Recently bought a '96 UK turbo.
Wonderfull car, but too quiet! Can anyone advise me on which exhaust to choose (full de-cat)? Budget £500 approx...
Have seen adverts for Scoobysport/Magnex/Scorpion/Mongoose...
Any advise would be gratefully received.
Cheers.

Welcome Rich.
I am just about to purchase my first Scoob and after looking at lots of posts on here, I think I will have the standard downpipe with the Scoobysport decat centre and tail. The reason seems to be that if you change the downpipe too, the car won't pass the emission test at MOT time. Up to you but I don't fancy all the hassle of changing the exhaust for a couple of hours evey year! Hope this helps.

There's only one choice for noise- 'The Blitz Nur Spec'. Wide bore exhaust and meaty sound. forget Magnex they hardly make a sound.

I had a UK MY96 and put a full scoobysport decat on which sounded great and gave a substantial increase in power. Should be able to pick up a second hand system for your budget with some left over for fitting costs.

After that, if you've got the old sports "farmer giles" type seats start saving for a second hand set of bucket seats.

Cheers

Hello,

My advice would be to go for a de-cat centre pipe (i have magnex), and for the BB defo go for the Blitz Nur Spec R....trust me, you will not be disappointed, however your neighbours may be!!

Speak to Jamie at JWRacing and he will sort you out!

Regards,

Dunc.

The blitz is indeed the daddy on the noise & quality front! Although if u can find the nurspec R (centre & back box) for £500 let alone a DP as well then u have dun well
Dunno the specifics but if u find yer local meets in the meets section then go along & have a sample of the options on the noise & £ front then make an educated choice

Really gratefull for the advice people. Blitz nur sounds great, but having just priced up, it is way over budget. Any comments on scoobysport/mongoose, as both are affordable (just!!).
I am assuming that for good power gains I need to lose both cats, if I stuck to cat downpipe and just changed centre and rear I could afford better (maybe Blitz), but I do want max power increase (I don't want much do I...!)
Thankyou all for welcoming me and taking the time to reply.

More than happy with full Scoobysport. Good power gains, you can genuinly feel the difference. Good low throb and plenty loud enough under throttle. Prob try and get 2nd hand, seem to be enough about.. Maybe a bit at a time to see what you think.
Centr and backbox absolute doddle to fit yourself, got dealer to do down pipe, £75ish...
Any louder than this and you really will pi55 people off I reckon, especially neighbours. Seems to attract plenty of attention as is.
Welcome and enjoy.

I have just fitted a full Mongoose system including down pipe and at £481 i think its superb value for money. I had a full scoobysport system on my last scoob and the mongoose exhaust sounds better and gives more power.

Forget the full system, just get the Nur Spec backbox or you'll live to regret it.

Just keep an eye in the For sale section and pic up a second hand zorst. They all last well so no reason not to. It's not like much can go wrong.

I picked up a Scoobysport DP and HKS Super Drager mid/back for £300

Afterburner from Scoobyworld. I got centre and rear for £375 (they were on special offer though). Downpipe is £180 IIRC.

Anybody got a rough estimate of the power gain to be expected by fitting a de-cat down pipe/centre and BB?

Cheers

go for a twin dump down pipe or a separated open mouth pipe.

BPM is decent, also scoobymania twin dump is nice.

scoobymania 3 inch centre section is great value and well worth considering. back box is a choice, but bear in mind a turbo charged car should have zero backpressure of it can.

I would recommend contacting pat on pat@22b.com and consider one of his own designs of back box which he can have made for you.

I believe he flow tested it to find it didnt register on the flow bench as a restriction at all. It also happens to be quieter than the nur spec and hks hiper, despite looking very similar.

COmpared to a Blitz, it makes no sound. You're mother must have ears like dumbo. LOL

I have a HKS Hiper back box (very large zorst) and centre section, with a ScoobySport downpipe. It's definitely up there as one of the loudest. Very pleased with it.

Can be found at BR Developments.

Edited to say: Welcome to ScoobyNet!
