How much louder/faster will my car go with a magnex decat centre section?
#1
These things only cost £55 and I might as well get one - what I want to know is how much louder will my UK MY99 turbo sound (It already has a SS backbox)?
Also will there be any performance difference?
I don't want to touch the downpipe cos I want to retain it MOT'ability.
Cheers!

Better to do the downpipe and keep the catted centre if you are only going to do one of them IMHO. If you do fully decat and stick with a 2.5" system, it is a quick job to swap in the catted centre for MOTs. The centre you are planning comes resonated for about double the price. It is a small contribution itself to noise and torque, just adds to the overall picture. Putting one on and dyno testing the car would struggle to show a difference IMHO that was large enough to be sure it was not dyno variance.

I've heard (no pun!) changing the downpipe will massively increase noise - something I'd rather not do as I get home quite late sometime. I wouldn't mind a small increase over the SS backbox only (as it currently is) as it ain't too bad...

IME the downpipe doesn't really increase noise much at idle and light throttle (very slight turbo whistle maybe) but is notably louder when you're ragging it. Magnex twin dump.

Yeah agree ... the non res centre made a big difference to the sound, not as much as when swapping the back box for the OEM, but makes it sound like a real scoob now .... and i am sure the engine felt more eager to rev than before.

ashkay .. I ran an SS BB for about 4 months before putting on an SS DP. There is not a massive increase in noise at all .. only if you are really ragging it.
Slightly more noise at idle, motorway speed though .. just a bit deeper really. I've taken my BB off as I now have a wee bairn and the wagon is a bit noisier.
DP makes majordifference to your performance though compared to a centre.
You said you wouldn't mind the SS BB being a little bit louder so IMHO I think a downpipe is just what you're looking for.
Doofus.

DP is significantly more expensive and others have told me much louder than just a change of the centre on its own.
Anyway, I have ordered the centre section and see how it goes.
May consider the downpipe if I find a girlfriend who I have to visit in the day (at night time it's just far too loud!)
